But ares they SARS-CoV-2 or a different coronavirus? There are multiple types of coronaviruses and many of those just cause a bad cold in healthier people.

I think the cruise companies are going to be hard hit going forward. More so than any other part of the travel industry.

15 million dead and only 2.4 Trillion impact on the economy?

I am not insulting you Bon, but those numbers are really high on the dead side and really low on the GDP is the deaths happen.

That many deaths, even in Africa or some third world place, would case an international shut down.

Strangely, there are relatively few COVID-19 cases in Africa of all places. Wonder why.

I have been doing errands today, so I didn’t get a chance to read it. I will go back.

Were they “sharing” the machine? That would be nasty without the CV.

No tests. It’s a “limiting” factor.

They have their own Virus X issue going on. No virus to them.

"need to stop incoming flights from the EU to prevent more seeding"

It is likely too late for that to be of benefit. When testing is widely available, I suspect we will find there to already be several hundred, if not thousands of cases already in the US. The time to quarantine our borders was likely two months ago. If that is indeed the case and the contagion is already amongst us, that may indicate the actual mortality rate is low. Would stricter quarantine in U.S. be the impetus to push us into economic collapse?

I wonder what will happen when this spreads to the free-defecating homeless population in San Francisco.

Ray:

This guy very calmly walks you through why this virus is different, and why focusing on the death count is not the correct way to look at the situation.

That is a function of the ridiculous behavior of the CDC and the delay of tests.

If you want to see how it can spread then just take a look at the lawyer in critical condition who gave it to his family, his neighbor, and his rabbi. Not only is the synagogue in danger of it spreading but that Rabbi also taught undergraduate classes.

You have no idea what kind of damage it does to people who survive it.

And you have no idea what happens or how many are going to get the second wave

It is far too soon to claim this is no big deal. Perhap it won’t be. Perhaps it will be.

But go ahead and carry on. I encourage all that think they are immune to volunteer to help in whatever way they can since they believe they are invincible.

We’ll know where we’re heading by the end of the month.

Watch Seoul, if this thing is as bad as the worst-case scenarios suggested, Seoul should be overrun with this thing by the end of the month.

Sure, they will have cases, but I suspect it’s not going to be that bad there, even at the peak.
