Would you support a Trump request for Walmart, Costco etc, to implement purchase limits?

In fact if I were Trump, I’d call in all the big box people, Walmart, Costco etc and tell them to tell to immediately develop *temporary* policies where the panicked and greedy can only have two cases of water per person or 3 bottles of hand sanitizer, etc...No more BS where ya see people rolling out with 3 full baskets of tissues, water, sanitizer etc.

I’d put of quick stop to that nonsense.

Nah - they will end up with a 3 year supply cluttering up their places and the rest of us will be just fine...their actions show how effective a tool fear is to control/steer a populace:

Kind of ironic - we know that the Deep State and others use fear as a way to steer and control the people - we had the commie/nuke war threat until the Berlin Wall came down then it wasn’t viable anymore and up pops Globull Warming, which has many in fear that we’re gonna destroy the Earth even as we do less harm than past generations and none of the data actually supports anything but the earth’s climate and Mother Nature do not now, and never did have a “balance” and even if they did, we have no idea of how to maintain one or ‘fix’ things...all our efforts end up causing more harm....the coronavirus scare is no different - the panic-induced knee-jerking will cause more harm than the virus.
Folks who would be up in arms if the government decided to tell them they could not move freely are now begging that same government to lock them, and everyone else, down....I’d wager if, after doing that, the story ‘evolved” they would also go meekly to barb-wire surrounded camps/tent cities because the “latest info” said that’s the only way to stop it.
Even though we know that they use fear to guide and control us, so many can’t see it through the red haze of insane panic....they not only welcome the government controls, they beg for them...

And the fear mongers will try to leverage it...

Reminds me of a saying, by Ben Franklin, that many FReepers, who are now acting insane, used to showcase:

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

The other day I ventured into Wal, no TP, No H2O, no disinfectant, no paper towels, a few wipes.

Im in pretty good shape otherwise. I have a well, the power is on, and my dry goods are okay. I have trees with leaves, rags and bar soap.

I have also self isolated because of a shattered wrist since January.

But the hoarders are a concern. So is one-handed self defense, if it comes to that.

While i am ashamed of the selfish idiots stripping the shelves clean and leaving none for everyone else, particularly people who actually have health issues and or the elderly,if the stores can keep up with the demand it will actually be good for the economy,at least short term.
This is good training for the future, too.

Yes?
And...?”

Thats a easy one.
We do not have limited supplies of products today. Only panic. Plenty of products being produced.
In WW II there were limited amounts of copper, steel and rubber etc available.

Not at all comparable.

That and or eliminate all ‘price gouging” laws.

If hand sanitizer were priced at $10 a bottle, people could still get it and afford it, but would not hoard it.

Everyone should read this article by Dr. Walter Williams. It lays out a case for rising prices in times of disaster.

One of my favorite talk show hosts was the late Mark Scott from Detroit. A constant theme of his was to examine your premises and check your epistemology. Know why you believe what you believe.

People who claim that the economic laws of supply and demand need to be overturned in tough times need to re-examine their epistemology.

Where are you getting 884 fatalities?

It’s about 40. Sad for their families, but 5500 Americans die daily of all causes

It is in the interest of these stores to do this anyway. Let’s more customers leave happy—as long as the limits aren’t crazy small.

My local Meijer did that, but several of their shelves are bare anyway.

It is fine. You do t have to have bottled water, water is not being shut off. I live in AZ where tap water tastes like crap, but I’ll drink it. There is no shortage of these items, it’s just a result of panic. You can make your own hand sanitizer, you can make your own disinfectant wipes with stuff most people already have. I’m sorry it’s hard on you, perhaps you can ask a neighbor, but when people figure out they are not going to be in lockdown they will stop the panic buying.

I just confirmed your number. Frankly, I don’t recall where that number came from but it’s obviously WAY overblown. International?

Thanks for setting this straight. It reinforces the point. CDC reports somewhere between 22,000 and 55,000 deaths this season from the common flu.

No worries.
So I’m wondering how we can get a mortality pool going? No prizes or bragging rights instead as a gauge of how our nation is doing.

I’m seeing these outlandish future mortality numbers kicked around, some in the millions.

I’m personally leaning toward about 1,000
