LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A protester who participated in hanging an effigy of Kentucky's governor at an armed rally on the State Capitol grounds has been fired from his job at an auto dealer.

Neil Huffman Auto Group said it terminated the unidentified employee after an internal review, saying it “does not condone threats of violence in any form."

The playing of Lee Greenwood’s song “God Bless The USA” at the protest angered the singer.

“I am furious that they used my song in an attempt to give strength to their event, and do not condone their behavior and its use in conjunction with a suggested lynching, even one that is purely symbolic,” Greenwood said in a statement.

Effigy? I’d say a lot of these tyrant governors need to hang from their neck till dead.

Trump has been hanged, and even burned, in effigy dozens of times.

You know who not to buy a car from. Be sure and tell them.

They screwed up when they stated a reason.

They could have fired him without any comment or statement at all and avoided the risk of suit and notoriety.

“Trump has been hanged, and even burned, in effigy dozens of times.”

Yes, but the people who did that do not have jobs to lose.

It’s not social media.

It was done on the State Capitol Grounds and on TV and the newspapers.

I suppose he had to say something but I’d rather he hadn’t injected himself into an event that had nothing to do with him.

What risk of suit? Kentucky is an employment at will state. The dealership can fire the guy for any reason, or no reason, so long as they don't violate the law by doing so.

I will guarantee hanged President Trump in effigy in the showroom and they would not have done a thing. Except give him a raise and promote him.

He was identified in the media and it wouldn’t surprise me if the fired guy had his employer listed on his social media sites. Anything that can connect a company with an employee that embarrasses them can be used to fire said employee.

The Lee Greenwood comment is the most interesting part of the article.

Lee Greenwood is essentially saying:

“I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free,
As long as you do not cross that line,
If you do, your free speech cannot count on me.”

If so, would they be acting within their rights?

No disrespect to Lee Greenwood, but tarring and feathering tyrannical politicians was a pretty common practice when the country he sang so eloquently about was being formed.

Unlike in those instances Governor Beshear was not actually harmed in any way here.

Remember, this is a threat of violence that requires one to lose their job:

And this is protected free speech:

“Kentucky is an employment at will state”

That’s why they should have never stated a reason.

California is an “at will” state too.

Every employment attorney in the country will tell their client to never state a reason, unless it’s solid gold.

Like theft or assault.
