Gov. Cooper vetoes bill to reopen bars (NC)
Triad Business Journal ^ | 6/05/20 | Daniel Finnegan

Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill Friday that would have allowed the state's bars to open for outside operations, stopping a legislative end run around the state's phased reopening from the shutdown Cooper ordered to slow the spread of Covid-19.

North Carolina's bars have been closed since Cooper shut restaurants and bars down onMarch 17. After Cooper allowed restaurants and breweries to reopen in Phase 2 but left bars closed, the General Assembly passed a bill that would have allowed bars to serve customers outside, permitted restaurants to operate at full capacity and limited the state's ability to to close bars down again if a coronavirus spike happened.

The state Senate is considering legislation that would allow gyms and health clubs to reopen at partial capacity. Cooper has expressed concerns about that bill as well.

"Gov. Cooper needs to stop saying he’s basing all his decisions for keeping our economy shut down on 'science and data,'" Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, the Republican candidate running against Cooper in this year's gubernatorial race, said in a statement.

"By vetoing the 'Bar Bill,' he is claiming that 'science' says it is safe for a brewery to be open but not a bar. Gov. Cooper continues to drag his heels on reopening our economy, for no discernible reason."

A group of more than 180 bar owners is suing the governor in state court in an attempt to reopen. Owners of gyms and strip clubs are also suing Cooper.

Bars patrons should just have some “BLM” posters at every table.

Call it a protest while they drink a beer.

He’s a fascist bully boy drunk on power doing exactly what fascist bully boys drunk on power do. @sshat needs to be dragged from his “throne” and tossed into prison for the rest of his miserable life.

Good thing President Trump took the GOP convention the heck out of North Carolina.

So much for the south and “Red States” being superior to others. Virginia, Colorado, North Carolina.....we live under tyranny.

This same individual was marching in a crowd in Raleigh yesterday, wearing no mask and giving small businesses the silent finger of contempt. He was elected after some “judge” ordered the Durham polls to remain open for several hours after all other places in NC closed.

My husband and I went to a bar last night. It was quite busy, and so were other restaurants and bars in the area.

Oh, I see. Maybe all the places in Matthews are claiming to be “breweries.”

Don’t these tyrant blue state governors know there is an election in November?
Maybe they themselves aren’t up for re-election, but they are only doing harm to Biden and other Senate/House races (hopefully).
Voters are going to have their revenge for these communist style lockdowns come November.
Do these blue governors really live in a bubble where they think a hefty majority of voters support strict Covid-19 quarantines that persecute hairdressers, while weeks later allowing mass rioting with the governors themselves taking part in marches?

More discriminatory, arbitrary nonsense.

My wife and I went out to dinner last night (in NC) where the restaurant had a bar. The restaurant and the bar were both open. Why can a restaurant with a bar be open, but a stand-alone bar can’t?

Same nonsense we’ve seen throughout this hoax. Shops have to close, but Walmart and a host of big-box retailers could stay open. You couldn’t go to a florist or hobby shop, but Michael’s was allowed to open.

These decisions seem to be more based on the tax revenue gained than any sense of fairness.

I saw a tweet that said some Synagogue in NYC was hold in services and labeling them George Floyd protests to keep from being shut down. Bars should do the same.

He’s up for re-election in November. I wonder what the polls for opening up North Carolina are. I’d say if most didn’t agree with him, he wouldn’t do this. Remember North Carolina voted for Obama in 2008.

But they didn’t in 2012 or 2016. I think this governor’s days are numbered.
