The faculty of the University of Kentucky's African American and Africana Studies program has asked UK president Eli Capilouto to change the name of Rupp Arena because the legendary basketball coach's name "has come to stand for racism and exclusion" and "alienates Black students, fans, and attendees."

In a letter to Capilouto on Thursday, the African American and Africana Studies program faculty outlined additional steps it wanted Kentucky to take to eradicate racism on campus.

Why do I get the feeling the "some" would be in favor of Black Lives Matter Arena. You know that name is coming at some time, some place.

Kentucky was a slave state. Don’t they need to change the name of the state?

Has African Studies ever produced anything good for society?

We should quit offering federal grant and loan money for people to waste four years studying that BS. How do they make it a four year field of study? I am not sure how they fill up even one class with that nonsense.

At least Adoph Rupp, like Kenesaw Mountain Landis, was an outspoken, documented racist.

In 90% of these cases they’re just throwing the charge against the wall with no evidence to see if it sticks.

Here’s what to do:

Disrespect Rupp by renaming it RUMP (all you hafta do is put an “M” for the first “P”). Get your hate-rocks off like that.

Then, all the Young Repubs hafta do is put a “T” at the beginning, and... voila! You can be pissed off all over again. See how that works?

Kentucky did not join the Confederacy, but it was most definitely a slave state. Read Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

It’s what is being taught in all of the AA Studies courses being offered by the Universities that is causing “alienization” and segregation of the black students from the rest of society.

When the faculty of such courses begin making demands, they should be told that those courses are being canceled because they are causing the problems.

Kentucky was a neutral state.

How can Kentucky be a "neutral State"? Either slavery was allowed, or it wasn't. There is no other option.

Kentucky was torn... I have ancestors that fought on different sides.

I can’t say if slavery was allowed or not - my family sure never had slaves - they were dirt poor themselves.

~~~
“But when Lincoln’s victory brought secession and war, the state was too divided to rally behind either side. Torn geographically, ideologically, economically, politically and militarily between North and South, Kentucky was the physical embodiment of the Civil War era’s “brother against brother” strife.”
I forgot to add - “Kentucky” is an Indian name, so yeah - I guess that will need to be changed too...
