I found a piece of obsidian when I was in 2nd grade in Trenton NJ. I showed it to my teacher/nun and she told me what it was. Wish I still had it. I also found some when I was at NTC (Mojave). I have a box of flint and chert from there

I live in Western Idaho, next to the Oregon border. I have a few obsidian rocks I uncovered in my yard as I was sinking Posts for my fence. One was black about 1 inches x 3 inche. Another one, below was a 4 inches by 3. We find them around here a lot.

By the way, as of today, the rock I showed you, is worth almost $600. According to a few rock sites that sell puny pieces of obsidian on their web site. I guess if a person were real serious, they could make a pretty penny breaking them up and selling them like some places sell Mt St Helens ash in test tubes.
