It’s been just over seven months since radio legend Rush Limbaugh died - and eight since signing off for his final show on February 2, 2021.
Radio personalities come and go, sometimes quietly and even mysteriously. At times, station managers invoke soviet-era tactics, surreptitiously making talent changes overnight. It’s the nature of the business, not wanting to promote another station or call attention to a departing personality. One day a host is advertising a local car dealership, the next day they’re gone. Explanations are rarely given – they’re into the ether and out of our lives.
But not Rush.
A fixture on the dial for over 30 years, Rush Limbaugh was woven into the fabric of weekday radio life. Critics couldn’t stand him, but they couldn’t ignore him either. No matter where you were in America, you could find him somewhere mid-morning or early afternoon, the familiar beat of “The Pretenders” opening each hour of every show. Regardless of what was happening in the world, you could be sure he had an informed opinion about it.
Those of us who listened were often accused of being mind-numbed robots, waiting on and taking our marching orders from Limbaugh. Nothing could have been farther from the truth. Rush didn’t tell us what to think – he simply articulated the principles we already believed and used his massive megaphone to encourage others to stand strong.

I agree. I know the total betrayal from the Republican Party and the hopelessness of not being able to stop the destruction of the constitution sickens my heart. Being the patriot Rush was, he would have been devastated as well. I’m glad he missed the grieving of losing so much.
My sister (a far leftie) works at a radio station in DC. Years ago, Rush came in to pay the station a visit. She asked him to sign a photo of his for my 50th birthday.
He obliged.
I have that photo on my wall in my home office.
I so miss the man.
Awesome!
Feb. 17, 2021. The day talk radio died.
Reagan and Rush certainly mitigated impending disaster and may have delayed its advance by cultivating hope in the hearts of those of us who do conserve our culture.
Not sure what you mean by something new.
Yep, we all miss him.
Ditto 😕
I know how you feel.
You may not know this but Bo Snerdley / AKA James Golden - is on weekdays Weekdays 4-5PM, Saturdays 8-10AM, on 77 WABC Radio in NYC.
He does a lovely job, FWIW.

The theme song brings back good memories. Probably make a good ring tone.
Great idea. I just found and added it.

Oh, that is hilarious. I’d never heard that before.
Thank you so much. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get this as a ringtone ... and there it is!
I believe tomorrow they’ll be playing Rush description of the First Thanksgiving. I might tune into that for old times sake. I was listener from the 80’s and miss him like a brother.
Funny. So do I Accu Radio. Classical

I recommend it. Best I’ve read in a year.
“I remember the first time I heard Rush.In January of ‘89 we were vacationing in Florida...”
I can’t remember the year but the place was Richmond, Virginia.
My next delivery couldn’t be made until the next morning, I parked in an alley beside my next delivery and kicked back. My tv wouldn’t pick anything up, too many tall buildings around me. I turned on the radio and got squat on the FM dial so I tried the AM. Only one station came in and it was playing commercials.
Then there was the sound of the theme song for the movie Born Free. Then the sound of shotgun blasts. I had to find out what it was about.
This guy came on the air named Rush Limbaugh.
Seems some rabbits had been introduced into the ecosystem in New Zealand and with no natural predators to control them they were ruining crops and making a mess of things. The New Zealand government had authorized a bounty of something like $1/rabbit (dead) brought in.
PETA was going bonkers protesting the slaughter of those innocent bunnies.
Rush was trolling them with the song with the gun fire added.
I was hooked.
The big tree has fallen. There is a lot more sunshine for all the little trees. One or more of them will emerge.
And there is no such voice on the other side.
It’s so strange, but I miss him like he was a close relative.
I sure do. I don’t know when but hopefully someone can fill his shoes and soon. I haven’t heard him or her yet. I’ve tried.
Same here.
Rush was our Polaris, our North Star, a conservative constant in a culture of relativism.
