On Wednesday, the wife of Chad Read, a man shot and killed November 5, released the video of the confrontation leading up to and the shooting itself.
The video was released by attorney Matthew L. Harris, who is representing Read’s widow, Jennifer. It was released in conjunction with a petition that seeks to take custody of Chad’s children from his ex-wife Christina Read.
According to the release, the video depicts William “Kyle” Carruth shooting and killing Read during a confrontation.
As of Wednesday, Carruth had not been arrested or charged with a crime. While his name was associated with the shooting in family court documents, police have not officially released his name because he has not been charged.

We have a winner. He was able to go back in the house to retrieve the gun. Should have stayed there and called the law. Then, if big boy had tried to come through the door at that time, it would have been a no-bill. Now, it's very complicated.
I can definitely understand your point of view.
Having seen first-hand situations of the males being used by ex-wives and current wives.
Both men were most likely in bad scenarios in their perspective relationships.
Either way, it still plays out to the Alpha-male (which I absolutely respect!) syndrome kicking into gear.
It’s terrible, all the way around.
I just love living in the great state of Texas!!!!
Came from up North decades ago.....
Not ever going back. Not even to visit.
I’m not saying the father had no reason to be angry.
Just could have handled it better.
Yes, I viewed the 2nd video.
Never, EVER, go to grab a gun from someone unless you are ready to die.
That split second is all it takes for the gun holder to honestly think, “if the other person gets the gun it will be turned on me.” Especially....if the man or woman holding the gun is pointing it down (correctly) and the other person goes in so close as to practically (actually) be on top of you.
It all happens so damn fast.
It’s terrible, all the way around.
The unarmed man got right up and inside the ‘personal’ space ratio of the man holding the gun.
As for Kyle Rittenhouse and that asinine prosecutor......
The jury was brave. All 3 shootings were self-defense.
The prosecutor and the assistant were both crooked.
Bad shoot. Incredibly sad story that has ruined many lives in multiple families.
That was very interesting.
No, I don’t need to read her posts. Your post made it very clear that they are/were all the sort of people who eventually end up in deep doo-doo.
“Tobacco Road” in real life.
That part is pretty straightforward. The convoluted part is this web of divorces and exes. Carruth himself is in the middle of a divorce from a judge, and she filed to keep him from her home after the shooting. Okay, maybe not “convoluted,” but a crazy soap opera.
It was clear as day in that case. At least for normal people
It's a lot more blurry in this case, and that is why I said it's a difficult one. He made it somewhat less complicated when the unarmed man tried to grab his rifle. But was it enough to justify the armed man shooting him? In my opinion, it was, but then I am not the one making the call.
This is second-degree murder, in my opinion. The shooter left the scene (porch), permitting the deceased to speak with his ex-wife, with whom the deceased had legitimate business to discuss (the whereabouts of the minor child). The shooter could have remained in the house and called the police regarding perceived trespassing. Instead, the shooter re-emerged from the house, brandishing the weapon and escalating the situation. The shooter further fired a “warning shot”, again legally classified as brandishing. When the deceased grabbed the shooter and yanked him around, pushing him some distance away, the shooter deliberately aimed the weapon and discharged two shots, when it was not at all clear A) that the victim had tried to take the weapon and B) that a clear threat was posed to the shooter.
Castle law or no, the shooter left his “castle” to intervene in a domestic issue, escalated a situation, and committed a homicide. His departure from, and return to, the scene of the event demonstrates no immediate threat to his person by the deceased.
A very messy event, but not one of self-defense, in my opinion. A very classic crime of passion.
“Yes, I viewed the 2nd video.”
What was the victim doing when he was shot?
Finally, an intelligent comment. That poor child.
Grabbing the gun.
Stupid, stupid, STUPID move.
Yes.
Anything else?
1) Read was there for a custody transfer. I have not seen anything stating how long this had been in place, but one might assume this has been going on for a period of time. Therefore it was not unreasonable for him to expect the transfer at 3:15pm.
2) Read was informed by his ex the child in question wasn't there. Read became agitated by this news, at which point Carruth went inside the home, retrieved a firearm and told Read to leave. This is called interfering with a child custody transfer, and not only is it illegal under Texas state law, the commission of a crime is an exception to the so-called "Castle Doctrine" law.
3) Yes, the presentation of a weapon did result in a physical altercation, but as the Ahrbery case showed, firing the weapon because it was grabbed isn't self defense. And Carruth was actually away from Read when he fired the fatal shots. Unlike Michael Brown, Carruth was not in immediate danger.
I'm actually surprised you would take this tack. I thought you were aware of the responsibilities that come with owning a firearm. This is open and shut, cut and dried when you look at Texas state law: Carruth committed murder. Period. But because he's married to a judge he'll probably get away with it.
Likely doesn’t matter? Ever hear of “Hands up, don’t shoot?”
I bet this wasn’t their first altercation or disagreement over visitation. Obviously, the father was being set up for legal action to end visitation. IMO, they baited him and had the phone ready to record whatever happened.
Read a report linked here on FR a week or two ago of the Pfizer vaxx causing changes to brain chemistry and aggression over the 9 month study.
He (guy with gun) wouldnt give him his kid.
