Could the Moon be useful in our quest to know the Universe? Possibly but not any time soon. The fact is that until we achieve velocity in the 1000 of miles per second rate as opposed to the less than 10 we have now, we are going nowhere.

Using a pellet (on the interstellar probe) and laser (from orbit) and making the probe large enough to be useful but light and durable, is our only shot right now.
