I had a personal experience with this in the OR a few years a couple years ago and it was awful.
Years ago I lived in Gainesville Florida where the population of psychologists is denser than anywhere outside of, maybe, California. I knew a few of them and many others by reputation and the news. Psychology seems to be the most fad ridden occupation on earth. The fad then was that any woman who had any psychological difficulties or even questions was a repressed lesbian and therapy needed to act on her underlying "reality." Several friends and acquaintances of my wife and me were pushed into paychological hell by these frauds and marriages were torn up. Most of these women eventually pulled out of their dive into false lesbian relationships but their lives were damaged severely.
