And then getting to the charger and the charger wouldn’t charge - at least it happened here in the US... but not limited to Tesla - every make of EV struggled in the bitter cold to even be ABLE to charge -even at the latest, most powerful charging stations. Batteries get too cold - they won’t charge (and the process for the charging system to “warm” them to accept a charge is extremely hard on the batteries and reduces their life span.

“...forced to wait in THREE HOUR queues at charge stations”

WELL! At least the Tesla owners can PROUDLY SMILE as they drive past those horrible, polluting, gas stations...on their way to a 3 hour wait in ice cold conditions, to Save the Planet.

We should all be so lucky.

“Ping to TG to get his assessment on this predictable mess......LOL!”

I think the answer, obviously, is to NOT use EVs during holiday periods, as there is no practical way to have enough charging stations to service the number of cars requiring charging, should they all be EVs.

...and when we’re EVs only, then it’s probably best that most people stay home during the holidays, and those who do want to travel, purchase permission slips from the Government, for that privilege.

Tesla and other EV makers should incorporate a plug in electric blanket for their batteries. Plug it in at night, the way people in Alaska n such, plug in an electric oil dipstick, to keep their oil warm, when starting up in the morning. The EV electric blanket should be removable for summer driving.

There was an ad on Prime for the Hyundai Ionic 5. It touted 18 minutes to charge to 80%. That didn’t include the hours you’ll spend waiting for the 10 EVs in front of you....that don’t have fast-charge capability.

Back in America...

This cold snap jumped the power price in PJM to over 1000 bucks per MWhr, meaning the region was power short. The insanity of electrical vehicles is that we don’t have the generation to fill the few vehicles that we have. There were curtailments on power demand, so how is it that we cannot fill these cars during weather extremes, and we only have a tiny number of EVs, yet this is the answer?

The batteries aren’t as good in super cold, and the driver has to draw down on it to keep the car warm.

Technology is not yet ready.

It's all part of creating chaos and making our lives as difficult, convoluted and as expensive as possible.
