Mountain lion that viciously attacked 5-year-old in Calif. won’t be removed from wild

A mountain lion that attacked a 5-year-old boy hiking in California with his family will not be removed from the wild, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The boy — identified by a relative by just his first name, Jack — could have died from from his injuries had his mother not carried him to safety following the harrowing attack Tuesday night.

DNA testing of the animal confirmed it was the same mountain lion responsible for the boy’s trauma, the Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a tweet.

The department said it was repeatedly denied access to private properties where the animal is believed to be, forcing it to conclude its investigation of the disturbing attack.

“Since the day of the attack, CDFW and allied agency personnel have been denied access to the primary private property and adjacent private properties for the purpose of attempting to capture the offending mountain lion,” the department stated.

“This lack of access, combined with worsening weather and the nomadic nature of mountain lions has diminished the chances for a successful capture of the offending mountain lion.”

The coyote population around Coeur d’Alene, Idaho is exploding. People put warnings up on the NextDoor app “Coyote just sighted in this neighborhood. Keep your pets in.” The discussion ALWAYS devolves to:
1. Shoot them: they are predators and are a danger to people, the community and to livestock.
2. The were here first, they are God’s creatures, we are destroying their habitat, and they are hungry.

About 80% to 90% of people are in Camp #1, but there are some real agitated kooks in Camp #2. I told to one kook in #2 that I hope she doesn’t get badly affected by the growing coyote population and get attacked. She wrote back “Are you threatening me?”

The area is surrounded by Coeur d’Alene National Forest which is 1,130 square miles of wilderness and all of Idaho has 4.7 million acres of designated wilderness (the third largest amount in the lower 48). When you point out that critters have plenty of land on which to roam and hunt, but they come to neighborhoods for easy food (cats, small dogs, young children), they go apoplectic. “Who are WE to decide who lives and dies? We shouldn’t play God!” These people are absolutely nuts.

I can’t believe these people have infested North Idaho.

Aren't human beings also God's creatures? Humans were probably in Cour D'Alene before coyotes, who originally inhabited deserts and grasslands but moved in after the wolf population was obliterated. And speaking of habitat, coyotes thrive in proximity to humans who furnish them with plenty of food--livestock, dogs, cats, etc.

California banned mountain lion hunting decades ago. Now they have an excess. Humans in California are no longer at the top of the food chain but are now a part of the menu.

https://wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Mammals/Mountain-Lion

The California Wildlife Protection Act of 1990 (Proposition 117) legally classified mountain lions as a “specially protected mammal”. It is unlawful to take, injure, possess, transport, import, or sell any mountain lion or any part or product thereof.

The pro-chaos crowd likes to repeat this as if it was a fact. It most certainly is not. Coyotes originated in New Mexico and Mexico. Yes, now they have spread everywhere but they are not native to Idaho.

“I can’t believe these people have infested North Idaho.”

Transplants from California, most likely the Bay Area.

Every 20+-year-old was here long before any living coyote was.

Word to the wise: 44 magnum, (although 10mm seems to work).

Hit a big cat with a .22 CB, it won't even feel it. As an old soldier once said: "You shoot me with that toy, and I find out......

The boy...could have died from his injuries had his mother not carried him to safety...

Well, what would you expect her to do?

The 5 year old daughter of a former neighbor was carried off by a mountain lion in Orange County CA.
She was rescued but severely injured. This was in 1986.
A lawsuit ensued and they won several million dollars from the county.
They proved that the county was aware of the presence of the lion and did not warn the park visitors.

“They were here first”

Yeah, so what? What does that have to do with anything?

I’m here now, and I’m going to shoot vermin like that on sight. Just about everything wrong is due to airheaded leftists and their stupid ideas. It’s a shame they tend to move on from habitat they’ve degraded.

It doesn’t matter, don’t accept the premise. “They were here first.”

Yeah, so ... what? I was here 2nd. I am not obligated to be part of the food chain just because some stupid bint has a death wish. F that.

We’re already seeing the “humanist” angle seeping out in so many avenues, whether religion, medicine, public policy, whatever. They value animals, insects, rodents, whatever, more than they do you. That’s fine, I don’t value them either.

But you can see where this is going. Don’t ever give one inch, because they will never stop.

Best guess for why the CDFW was denied access to private properties is once you give them permission, you give them permission for life for anytime they want to roam on your property.

I was posting about the coyote problem in an area infested with Karens. Those are (supposedly) frangible rounds. Pest gets shot and goes somewhere to die.

The "lack of access" excuse is just that - an excuse.

Fish & Game and/or the local sheriff can get a warrant to enter on the land. Go find a magistrate judge. They just don't want to deal with it.
