“As you know, it’s a feast day for the saint. St Valentine died for the faith, legend has it on this day.”

My cousin who lives in Italy has done some genealogy research and supposedly we’re related to Valentine (we don’t call him “Saint”). Don’t know if it’s true.

“3 timer”

Third time was the charm for me, too!

I can’t say regarding the origin of St. Valentine’s Day. My understanding re Cupid was that he is a mischievous cherub who would cause otherwise industrious young men to become smitten by the wiles of a beautiful woman.

A compelling force, no doubt!

Yep, same as “Sweetest Day”, which was originally created as a day to go out and do charitable service, like helping at old folk’s homes. But someone at Hallmark noticed it and said “people are dumb, we can just tell them this is Valentine’s Day part 2 and they’ll believe us”.

Roman - the child of Mercury and Venus - the Greek equivalent is Eros. What people often forget is that Cupid carries two sets of arrows - one of gold and one of lead. We all know what the golden arrows do - the lead ones achieve the opposite effect.

“Well, when Cupid shot his dart
He shot it at your heart
So if we ever part and I leave you
You say you told me an’ you told me boldly
That some day, well, I’ll be blue”

BZZZT!!! You’re wrong! Tell the lovely gent what he’s won for participating...

Lupercalia was February 15, not 14, and was a celebration of the founding of Rome. The priests of the brothers of the wolf would sacrifice a dog and goat. And then everyone would conduct a spring cleaning.

It’s amazing how many people spread bullshit literally coming from the Church of Satan as if it were fact.

Hysterically, the Feast of St Valentine’s Day is a misreading of Geoffrey Chaucer, who wrote of anniversary of the King as being on St Valentine’s Day. Wrong St. Valentine’s Day. That one was in May, which makes much more sense for a wedding day. Not understanding why one would celebrate one’s anniversary in FEBRUARY, people wrongly supposed there must be some relationship between St Valentine and romance.

Liturgically, the more important feast on Feb 14 (the church has so many saints’ feasts that they pile up occasionally throughout the year) is that of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who created the Cyrillic alphabet to ease the proselytization of Eastern Europe. Since 1967, the Catholic church calendar no longer even recognizes the feast of the St. Valentine from February.

Try he story of Lupercalia is from 6th century BC and likely older. It’s a very similar story to Moses in a basket.
I didn’t get information from Satan. Lighten up.
