My working theory is that they are not allowed to retire. It takes time to find somebody prone to being corrupted and there is risk of exposure if the person turns on you. So, if you can find one you would never want to let him go.

BUT as I understand KY law, the executive committee selects a list of three names for appointment to the position and provides them to the Govenor. All names must be of the same political party as the outgoing Senator.

Dodged a bullet, other than come the next election Kentuckians could, like Govenor, elect a RAT.

I just looked it up. To my surprise, the governor of Kentucky is a Democrat. So if McConnell resigns due to ill health, we get another Democrat senator.

So given the shape he’s in, if McConnell says, that’s bad.
If he resigns, that’s bad.
