“This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” Behind the camera? John Ford, a director whose name is synonymous with “Westerns”. Gathered in front of it? An ideal cast - John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin and Vera Miles.

“Strother Martin stole every scene he was in. |

Kinda helped by Lee Van Cleef.

Lot’s of good actor’s in that movie, in roles they were good at. One of my top five movies.

And then Lee Marvin goes on to do Cat Ballou, a farce version of this type of story.

I'm kind of fond of the version done by (surprisingly) The Royal Guardsmen ...

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (The Royal Guardsmen)

Gene Pitney had a very distinct, powerful, and clean voice. He had a very good song, “The girl belongs to yesterday”...written by his friends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

He won a Best Actor Oscar for that.

Roman peace is not won without Roman war. Civilizing the west and maintaining a free society requires that bad men are willing to do terrible things so that others might be free. All of Ransom Stoddard’s talk of the law, peace and civility, would not exist without Donafin’s uncivilized act.

Much of the film is in reference to the 1830s and 40s where lawlessness was rampant across the US. The attacking of the Shinbone star was commentary on the pro-slave state raiders burning down an abolitionist newspaper in Illinois and killing its owner/editor.

Best line in the movie: The Shinbone election held in the bar:

Mr. Peabody: Give me the usual.
Donovan: The bar is closed.
Mr. Peabody: Alright, just give me a short beer.
Donovan: The bar is CLOSED!
Mr. Peabody: Just a beer! A BEER AIN’T DRINKIN’!

The Rockville Rocket ( CT ) had a lot of very good songs and he wrote some hits for others such as He’s A Rebel and Hello Mary Lou . He was always more popular in Britain and Europe right up until he died . He died in Wales , UK .

Lee Marvin was an actor.

I believe the book was written by Dorothy Johnson.

Dorothy was a Montanan.

My Mom met her.
