The same thing happened to the original Marathon runner. After running from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of the Greeks over the Persians, “We prevail,” he promptly died.
He had given his all in the effort. With many more people participating in athletics now, probably a few have congenital defects that make it inadvisable to give 110% as the training propaganda advises. The target heart rate was originally conceived as the upper limit to which a surviving heart patient could safely exercise — and not the minimum as the PE instructors and personal trainers, now advise — “that what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”
Inevitably, a few people die, as everyone eventually will — fit or unfit, young or old, vaccinated or unvaccinated. One has to realize the risks they take — along with the rewards and find that proper balance for themselves by listening to their bodies as well as the medical professionals — as well as their coaches.
The formula for a safe target heart rate (maximum) is usually 220 - (one’s age) and anywhere from 60-80% of that number, but overzealous exercisers think 220 should be the minimum — and so yeah, they are pushing their luck everytime they are making an extraordinary effort. It doesn’t come without consequences — and just make them unconditionally immortal.
220 - (one’s age)?
