Cats Kill a Staggering Number of Species across the World
Scientific American ^ | 12/12/23 | Jack Tamisiea

Posted on 12/13/2023 10:14:59 AM PST by DallasBiff

Exotic species such as pythons, Asian carp and cane toads often dominate the invasive species discourse. Few biological invaders, however, have wreaked as much ecological havoc as one of our most cuddly companions: cats.

Despite their small stature and memeable mugs, domestic cats (Felis catus) are perfectly adapted killing machines, armed with retractable claws, sharp fangs and night vision. And these potent predators are anything but picky. As humans have spread cats around the world over the past 9,000 years, these ferocious felines—which were likely domesticated thousands of years ago in the Near East—have terrorized native creatures on every continent except Antarctica.

God bless them. If only they would take on the bigger rodents. Possibly more interbreeding with Servals and larger felines would help.

Scientific American is propaganda now, or in this excerpt a children’s magazine.

Owls kill cats, kittens, lambs, puppies, you name it. If the kill is too big to carry, they just eat out the eyes, tounge, lips, brains. It's an ugly sight to see. I used to lose a lot of lambs to Bard Owls. Owls with chicks in a nest to feed will kill just about anything.

My cats run from under patio chair to patio chair when outside at night.

"You, as a cat owner, haven’t lived until you have tripped over a dead squirrel in a dark hallway."

How about a live bat flying around your bedroom or a 18 inch copperhead snake hiding under the kitchen table? I had to repaint the kitchen ceiling because of all of the blood stains from wounded birds trying to escape.

That cat was a throw away found on a soccer field when it was a very small kitten. We had a pet door for the dog, so we put up with that cat's nature. Oh, it could climb our 6 foot wood fence like a staircase and the neighbor's chain link fence like it was a step stool. On the positive side, it was the nicest cat in the neighborhood. The kids on our street used to dress it up in baby clothes, treat it like a doll and push it around in a wagon.

"The woke war against kitties begins."

Like dogs don't attack, and bite people, hunt in packs or kill critters.

Yeah. We'll get on that "staggering number of species" shortly.

After we nap for a bit.

Yes. It’s a science magazine yet seems not to know why cats were domesticated.

Maybe we can train them to kill Pythons, Asian Carp, and Cane Toads.

Pound for pound, domestic cats are the most ferocious and efficient predators on the planet. Too bad their prey doesn’t include the assorted species of Leftists.

Cats are the natural exterminators! No pesticides! The cats from my childhood came from local bakeries. Barn cats and other working cats are common at farms and companies.

I’ve been killing stray cats and stray dogs for years. They come on the ranch and pester our animals and then they end up as hog feed.

The ocassional critter that shows up looking for a home finds one. But if they start fights or stalk our chickens then they’re toast.

This isn’t Disneyland out here.

Leftists are too hard to swallow..Often stringing and smelly. Cats do have some standards. U nlike dogs ,cays don’t eat their own vomit, nor do cats eat cat poop. But dogs will...and the lick your face.Living in the country I have shed tears burying beloved cats and dogs and felt the frustration when some other predator takes one.

“The kids on our street used to dress it up in baby clothes, treat it like a doll and push it around in a wagon.”

That’s called feline abuse....lol.

Some cats are hunters, some are not. I had a cat that would bring in live lizards and grass snakes. You know that feeling you get when you round a corner from the bedroom and have a big green lizard staring at you at eye level? Or go into the kitchen and step on a pregnant grass snake while barefoot?

I’ve had to save two birds (so far) and too many to count lizards from the cat I have now. They can’t help their nature. Love them anyway.

Dog lover here, so I am biased against cats.

_______________________________________________-

I did not like cats in general for a long time growing up. I’ve always been more partial to dogs. But as I got older and met some felines here and there, I’ve greatly softened up to them in general.

To be honest, it really depends on the specific animal. I’ve met numerous dogs that have been ruined by irresponsible owners, so I just judge on a case by case basis.

Probably this is due to climate change, capitalism, assault-style firearms, homophobia, and white supremacy.
