That said, I do want to know why a ship that just undocked and was heading out of port lost power within 30 minutes of pulling away.

Why do wheels fall off of airliners shortly after they take off? Why does a fuselage panel blow out of an airliner that's practically brand new?
Sometimes the simplest, most obvious explanation is the best. Companies cutting corners to save a few shekels, that's all.
How did it lose power? Bad gas, ship put in wrong gear, did the crew really put it on auto pilot and go to bed? Honest to God, that’s what I see on TV from the expert speculators. What have you heard the experts say? Wouldn’t you like to hear what the pilot said?
