JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A vicious dog attack you’ve likely never seen before is caught on camera. It shows a pair of dogs tear through a car in southwest Jacksonville while attempting to get a cat hiding inside.

Christie Barr was asleep when it happened around 3 a.m. over the weekend. She woke up to the extensive damage in the morning.

She called the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and police went through the security camera video and discovered it wasn’t a person, but dogs responsible for the damage.

“I thought someone maybe took a BB gun and shot my car,” she told Action News Jax’s Robert Grant.

The video shows the neighbor’s car jumping behind the engine shortly before the dogs go after her.

Barr said they never got to the cat and it survived. “There’s no doubt in my mind had they gotten that cat, she wouldn’t be here today.”

The insurance company towed her car and estimated up to $3,000 in damage from the dogs. Now neighbors don’t know where the dogs are and are concerned for the neighbors’ safety. Barr said she reached out to animal control, but no one has responded so far.

“If they can do that to metal on a car, they could tear a human being up,” Barr said. “You need to take care of them. Don’t let them be out running the streets during the middle of the night.”

A relative volunteers at a “downtown” animal shelter. Nearly 100% of the animals in the shelter are pitbulls, abandoned in the hood. Its yet another form of welfare, and a further sign of the “ghettoization” of the USA.

Look like Cano Corsos

IMO, they don't look tall enough to be Cane Corso. Canes are a good 6" taller than pit bulls. The prime suspects remain what everyone assumed before they even looked at the video - pit bull.

A good reminder that when you go out for your evening stroll, carry.

Pits are such playful dogs. So gentile and kind.

Similar thing happened in a fenced car lot in Houston. Dogs did damage to a group of high end cars. Tore off bumpers and trim.

Been watching Cesar Milans Dog Whisperer show for a while now.

He had a pit that he actually used to rehab and train other dogs and I thought “well, maybe it IS the way pitbulls are raised and trained” until it was reported that his pit bit one of Millan’s clients and he had to put it down.

Since then I have no use for pitbulls.

If Cesar Millan can’t control one, I figure nobody can.

Nice kitty. Safe and warm away from the mean, mean monsters. I would bet the cat made a fast exit stage right while the knuckle heads were busy beating up that nasty Honda.

Having spent a lot of time around Golden Retrievers, I understand they are foolhardy and silly, but apart from ONE in my life that was aggressive, left in a locked car balefully looking at passerby, I have never met one that was aggressive, never mind belonging to a breed that routinely appears in the news as having torn both people and animals to bits.

I fully accept that a pit bull, under disciplined training and constant and consistent oversight by a knowledgable and responsible owner, can be kept as a good and faithful pet. But that assumes the owner understands the breed and treats them accordingly.

Pit Bulls are NOT the same kind of animal breed as Golden Retrievers, and anyone who says that is either stupid, ignorant, or willfully malicious.

Not saying that about you, since I don’t know you. It is nothing personal. But anyone who maintains there is no difference between a Golden Retriever and a Pit Bull with respect to inherent behavior patterns is either compelled by a personal agenda, or in complete ignorance of dog breeds.

And since these two powerful, aggressive dogs were running free, the owner is irresponsible and ignorant, as well as stupid and should be criminally charged, hopefully before those playful dogs decide to play that game with a human that cannot retreat up into a car.

Golden Retrievers aren’t a lot of fun either.

The difference between a golden retriever and a pit bull is that gold retrievers socialize easily while socializing pit bulls can be difficult. A person can be a horrible dog trainer and still have a good golden retriever. A person can be an excellent dog trainer and still have a bad pit bull. The margin of error for socializing pit bulls is narrow while the margin of error in socializing golden retrievers is large. There is a simple reason that the animal shelters are bursting at the seams with pit bulls and pit bull mixes.

“Nearly 100% of the animals in the shelter are pitbulls”

Same in my area and I’m 40 miles and 2 peninsulas removed from the hood. When a regular dog comes in, it’s gone in seconds.

I’m not against a euthanasia program for these cast offs, it’s a sad affair, but come on... it’s ridiculous.

I read an article that talked about registering pit bulls with owner classes and licensing for people who want to have pit bulls. That would cut down on the amount of Pit Bulls that just get put out there and sucked up by ‘bangers only to be left to the shelters in fairly short order.

We were neighbors in Germany w a German woman who was extremely consistent with her roller

I had the kids stay away from it

I took a lot of crap for that

The thing turned around on her during a walk and attacked her. She had to have it killed

I live 40 miles away from Cody, Wyoming and I speak from my rural and ranching perspective.

For whatever reason we see few pit bulls or other such stray dogs around here. But we do see other strays and in particular the Goldens who just LOVE to chase cattle and who will foolishly think they can chase bison. Right up until the bison chases them!

Our one oddball stray since 2010 has been a teacup Chihuahua that somehow made it to the ranch over ten miles of mountain and wilderness. It lives with a nearby family now.

If Cesar Millan can’t control one, I figure nobody can.

I had a friend who was a noted dog handler and breeder and he told me the first rule of handling dogs is never trust a pit bull. He said you just never know when they are going to go psycho. They can be easily triggered by stimuli that other dog breeds correctly see as no threat.

“One of the scariest things I've ever seen was a 2,000 pound bison jumping up and down on a Golden and making a meat waffle out of it. It was pogo sticking on all four legs.”

I have to say this is truly funny to read.
