Sustainability in yachting: “The pace for change in eco-responsible yachting is increasing with every new build”
Monaco Life ^ | 3/27/24 | Miriam Cain

As the superyacht industry navigates its way toward a sustainable future, the experts at Northrop and Johnson explain how the company is leading the way with its Responsible Yachting Strategy.

There is no escaping the fact that a superyacht can have a detrimental effect on the ocean, yet the ocean is the yachting industry’s biggest ally – both for its livelihood and in mitigating climate change. In a realm that has traditionally been somewhat detached from sustainability, the superyacht industry has typically been driven by luxury and exclusivity. But with this comes a cost. Whether it is the fossil fuels burned while underway or the fuel that powers the generators, the maintenance or even the provisioning, a great deal goes into the superyacht experience, all of which has a negative environmental impact. However, with so much focus on the environment and the world’s oceans, it is now increasingly rare to find any player in the industry that is not combating the issue of sustainability. From the yacht’s build and design to the brokerage houses, the supertanker of yachting is increasingly turning in the direction of eco-responsibility.

Virtue signaling on steroids, isn't the purpose of yachting to have as much open space for sun as possible.

What happens when a storm suddenly comes through and the yacht is stuck because the solar panels can't get any sunlight?

Go woke go broke.

No that’s not the primary purpose - that would be to showoff how wealthy you are compared to other people in ‘row boats’.

I'm holding out for yachting equity myself.

At the very least, the world owes me a yacht car with a couple of babes to ride around with me.

But no one pays attention to the problems stemming from the use of alternative fuels such as pixie dust and unicorn farts. Unicorns and pixies are not happy in captivity, and that often leads to suicide. Something the MSM doesn’t report.

“Virtue signaling on steroids”

No kidding. Do these people care one whit for “the environment” or the world? Of course not. If they did, they wouldn’t be wasting a half billion dollars on a “mine is bigger than yours” play toy.

They should really go for it and use a papyrus boat like Thor Heyerdahl did back in the 1970s.

How else are they supposed to get to Davos to tell us to give up our cars and eat bugs when all the private jet parking is taken?

We fire up the Generator and recharge the batteries that way.

But, we’re on 41ft. NOT a super-yacht, nor, are we woke.

The epitome of virtue signaling.

The rich elitists have NO intention of giving up one iota of their comfort and privileges. They are doing this all for show, as if it’s supposed to engender sympathy for and acceptance of them and their lifestyle.

Life in Monaco comes with its own priorities. Outsiders may not understand.

I doubt the vast expanse of the ocean even notices a super yacht.

An single undersea volcano does a thousand times the damage all the superyachts we can ever build does.

was just thinking that in the green future the rich boaters will all own galleys while the uber rich will own longboats. can’t produce sailing ships because Sails won’t be green enough. betting Klaus will have a tripledecker longboat like Cleopatra and rowers will be working for food.

I wonder how big an RTG battery would need to match the performance of a Diesel engine?

I’ve known rich people like this at a lake where one guy built a two story brick home and his neighbor just couldn’t take it, so he tore his new home down and build a three story.

It’s just stupid how these people think. Just gotta outdo the other guy.

And yes, these super yacht people care nothing about the environment or any one else for that matter.
