DECORAH, Iowa -- Luther College officials are trying to come up with a way to end what has become an unofficial rite of passage for seniors -- the annual nude soccer game.
Started in 1997 as a year-end nighttime game on the lawn of the campus library, the event has steadily grown and has begun to cause problems on campus, said Ann Highum, vice president and dean for student life.
"Situations would arise where there would be nude males running through the halls, knocking on women's doors," she said. "There were a couple of very direct sexual harassment situations."
Last year's event drew beer-drinking middle-aged spectators and high school students. There were large crowds over several nights and fireworks were fired into the crowd, she said.
The college may ask police to videotape the event so students can be identified and disciplined if they refuse to stop, Highum said.
