The elections are 5 weeks away. It's crunch time, friends. The fate of the nation is up to us. The Democrats are very active. They have more special interest groups. They give more money, they have more volunteers.

We have to take back the Senate and keep the House. Our states need republican leadership.

Please call your state party and find out how you can help. Even if it's only an hour a week at a phone bank, it's worth it. Don't sit back and let someone else do the work for you. The Guild is for activism. Now is the time.

5 weeks is not much time, but this is when people finally start paying attention and making up their minds. Talk to your friends and family. Talk to people in stores, meetings, while pumping gas. Stick a bumper sticker on your car. Take a stand, take back America, and get private satisfaction that you and only you can make Hillary very sad and out of majority power.

We've all heard this, but it bears repeating (for amusement purposes only):

October 2, 2002 -- Babs blows her Shakespeare (Page SIX)

BARBRA Streisand is set to massacre her staff in the wake of her second super-embarrassing blunder in the space of a week.

On Friday, word got out that Streisand had fired off a memo to House Democratic leader Dick Gephardt urging him to resist the White House plan to attack Iraq. Unfortunately, not only was Streisand's memo faxed to a Republican's office by mistake, it was riddled with spelling errors - like "Gebhardt" - that made the diva look like a dunce.

Then, on Sunday night, Streisand performed at the Kodak Theater in L.A. for the $6 million National Democratic Gala. During her show, she lectured the crowd, and declared: "I find George Bush and Dick Cheney frightening. Donald Rumsfeld and John Ashcroft frightening . . . I find bringing the country to the brink of war unilaterally five weeks before an election questionable - and very, very frightening."

Babs then took a stab at eloquence with: "In the words of William Shakespeare, 'Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword.' "

But Streisand, who needs to brush up on her Shakespeare, was taken in by the online illiteracy that passes for erudition. As cyber-gossip Matt Drudge pointed out on his Web site, the "patriotism" line is not from the playwright. It first appeared last year when it circulated via e-mail.

Streisand clearly doesn't know propaganda from poetry. She insisted in a statement via her rep Dick Gutttman: "It doesn't detract from the fact that the words themselves are powerful and true and beautifully written. Whoever wrote this is damned talented, and should be writing his own play."

For the first time in many years, La Streisand's other mouthpiece, Ken Sunshine, was speechless when asked about the Shakespeare snafu. But he gamely declared, "Nobody else has the guts to say what's really on her mind about serious issues."

Streisand's script and some altered lyrics she sang to "The Way We Were" were written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, who will likely take the fall. Meanwhile, Streisand laid into her staffers on her Web site, babrastreisand.com, blaming the memo misspellings on "a new employee."

"It seems that when Republicans don't like what you say, they attack you on the lowest and least pertinent level," Babs complains on her site's "Truth Alert" section. "The manner in which this memo was leaked obliterated the imperative message of the note by drawing attention only to the fact that a few words had been misspelled."

The site goes on to explain that Streisand dictated the memo over the phone to "a new employee who sent out a first draft before it had been reviewed or checked for spelling . . . The ironic further truth [is] the fact that Barbra is a former spelling bee champion!"

get private satisfaction that you and only you can make Hillary very sad and out of majority power.

How sweet it would be!

GO JEB GO!

Too bad we don't have any senate races this year.

Also from Page Six, regarding the recent NY premiere of Anthony Hopkins' new film, "Red Dragon" (I'm really trying to cut back on my Chelsea posts, but they keep falling in my lap):

Meanwhile, Chelsea Clinton looked radiant with her boyfriend, Ian Klaus, who was seen affectionaly cupping her copious can.

Nothing like some fine alliteration in the morning.

Talk to your friends and family. Talk to people in stores, meetings, while pumping gas. Stick a bumper sticker on your car.

And don't forget those letters to the editor! People read them, and a few well-stated arguments in support of the right candidate could help someone decide how to vote.

So when are you guys leaving, where are you going, and where are you meeting? It's so exciting for us to have a Guilder meeting in Europe.

Are we a cosmopolitan group here or what?

From the "woman scorned" department?

LONDON (Reuters) - Edwina Currie lashed out on Wednesday at former Prime Minister John Major, attacking his moral crusading in office as "evil" in the light of their four-year affair.

Speaking for the first time since revealing her 1980s liaison with Major in newspaper excerpts from her diaries, the former minister said she decided to publish her parliamentary memoirs not because of money or publicity but to "set the record straight."

She attacked Major's campaign to promote family values with his "back to basics" policy as "evil, really rotten, really cruel -- and it was then open house on the way that his ministers had been behaving." full story.

Addendum to "Red Dragon" premiere coverage, complete with scintillating commentary from a published pundit:

...Chelsea Clinton and boyfriend Ian Klaus, Sean Combs, Val Kilmer and R&B crooner Kelis were among the many celebs who turned out Monday night for the premiere of "Red Dragon." The bone-chilling, stomach-turning thriller left many in the audience clutching their midsections. Though her blown-out bob remained calm, Chelsea admitted she was "scared." Daily News.

"Nobody else has the guts to say what's really on her mind about serious issues."

Au contraire! Here's a couple of brave hollyweird souls (shockingly enough).

Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise have joined the list of celebrities making their views known on Iraq, speaking out in favour of President George Bush's stance.

The pair made their feelings known at a press conference in Rome, where they have been promoting the Italian release of the blockbuster Minority Report.

"If Bush, as I believe, has reliable information on the fact that Saddam Hussein is making weapons of mass destruction, I cannot not support the policies of his government," Spielberg said.

The director added that those policies were "solid and rooted in reality".

Cruise also spoke out in support of the US president.

"Personally, I don't have all the information President Bush has," said the star.

"But I believe Saddam has committed many crimes against humanity and his own people."

Just stopping in to say hello. I've been up to my eyeballs with 3 black-tie charity events. Two down and one more to go. The first two were a smashing success that everyone wants to know what I've got planned for next year.

ARGGGHHH! Let me get through the third one first. I'm in serious need of sleep!!!

You won't need a difib for this info... NO American papers have covered this that I can find. When I typed Spielberg into yahoo it only gave me "Cruise, Spielberg Keep Their Kids Away from TV". If you type in Spielberg war Iraq, it gives you Star Wars; FILM; Film or Digital? Don't Fight. Coexist.

Apparently Babs and company don't read British newspapers. Shocking!

Hope you get a bit of rest today! You'll need it for the next month.

'The Torch' ends in tears (tee-hee-hee) Actual title!

You know a politician has stayed too long at the fair when a wide range of folks feels free to josh amiably about the practicality of his demise. That's what happened when sleazebag Robert Torricelli of New Jersey announced he was bowing out of an increasingly unwinnable re-election race in an effort to help save his Democrats' one-vote margin in the U.S. Senate.

Republicans quickly offered up a legal memo arguing that the only way under Garden State law that Torricelli could be replaced on the ballot this late in the campaign was if he died. Democrats believe they have other options (and will air them today before the state Supreme Court), but not everyone instantly ruled out termination with grave prejudice. [snip]

Absolutely and totally correct!

There are many ways to be active.

(We are fasting and praying over here

But that "prayer work" goes along WITH ALL OTHER EFFORTS TO HELP BRING INTO OFFICE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BRING AMERICA BACK - TO HER CORE VALUES AND SET FREE FROM THE CHAINS OF THE OPPRESSORS!

It is going to take every single person who likes to sit and type to get up and get out - make sacrifices of time and effort - and prayer if so led - in order for the victory that IS OURS to become reality! AMEN!

This is more than a little annoying:

WASHINGTON -- The FBI never completed a written assessment of the terrorist risk to the United States, despite promising Congress more than a year before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that it would do so, a Justice Department review said Tuesday.

By September 2001, the FBI had a draft of its ''Terrorist Threat Report,'' which described terrorist organizations and state sponsors of terror. But the draft did not address the risks of an attack on U.S. soil, the Justice Department's inspector general found.

The FBI's draft also did not account for possible methods of attack, potential targets, or the resources amassed by various terrorist organizations. ''Because the FBI has not completed a systematic written assessment of the most likely terrorism scenarios,'' Justice said, ''it may not have fully identified the specific nature of the threat so that it could focus its attention and resources to prepare adequately and respond effectively.'' full story at USA Today.
