The GUILD - Jan. 31, 2003 - Do they stand with us or with terrorists? Contact European nations
Jan. 31, 2003

Posted on 01/31/2003 2:27:37 PM PST by mountaineer

Some European nations' leaders oppose the United States' policy regarding Iraq, while others offer firm support. It has been suggested that we might boycott tourism and the agricultural products of countries like France and Germany, for example, who oppose President Bush's efforts.

Some also have suggested offering words of support and thanks to those nations that have chosen to stand with us. The eight nations whose leaders endorsed a letter of support of the U.S. were: the United Kingdom, Spain, Hungary, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Portugal and the Czech Republic:

Washington, 31 January 2003 (RFE/RL) -- With an array of European countries voicing support for U.S. policy on Iraq, President George W. Bush moved closer to securing a broad "coalition of the willing" to back possible military action against Baghdad.

Yesterday, leaders from Britain, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Portugal signed a letter expressing support for the tough U.S. stance on Iraq, which the United States accuses of hiding weapons of mass destruction. Slovakia later said it supported the letter and today government leaders in Latvia, Romania, and Slovenia said they also back the contents of the letter. source

In any event, contacting foreign countries takes some doing. This thread attempts to provide some practical suggestions.

For starters, for those of you living in large cities, there may be a foreign consultate in your area. You could give that office a call and ask them to make note of your comments. Their embassies in Washington, D.C. may be contacted as well; here's site with information on those.

In addition, many foreign goverments have web sites with links for feedback. Here are a few, in no particular order:

Czech Republic (Cyril Svoboda, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Vaclav Havel, president), info@mzv.cz

United Kingdom (Tony Blair, Prime Minister) - has no email, but can contact editor@ukonline.gov.uk or webmaster@pmo.gov.uk, or fax Mr Blair at 011 44 020 7925 0918

Spain (Jose Maria Aznar Lopez, President) - contact Spain's UN mission, spain@un.int or ifarias@spainun.org

Hungary (Medgyessy Peter, Prime Minister), miniszterelnok@meh.hu or www.kancellaria.gov.hu/miniszterelnok/visszajetzes_e.php

Denmark (Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Prime Minister), stm@stm.dk

Italy (Silvio Berlusconi, President) www.italyemb.org/Contact%20us.htm

Poland, (Aleksander Kwasniewski, president) letters@poland.pl

Portugal (Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, Prime Minister) www.portugal.gov.pt/utils/en/Contact+us/ or click on "comments" at lower right at www.portugal.gov.pt/en/Prime+minister/Default.htm

France (Jacques Chirac, President), email

Germany (Gerhard Schroder, chancellor) click on "email" at this site or try this: http://eng.bundesregierung.de/frame/sonstigel/Service/E-mail/ix939_.htm

Canada (Jean Cretien, prime minister) sitecanadasite@communication.gc.ca or Contact the PM

Slovak Republic (Mikulas Dzurinda, PM), premier@government.gov.sk

Latvia (Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President) feedback@president.lv

Romania (Adrian Nastase, Prime Minister) premier@gov.ro

Slovenia (Anton Rop, PM) Go to and click on "ask the prime minister" (feedback form)

prayers going up for Aggie Mama and the baby.

Just out of curiosity, I am interested to know if AG is keeping the school district aprised of the situation.

Have y'all heard about Motorcade for War Against Saddam---brainstorm of Don Crawford, a talk-show host at KLBJ in Austin, Texas?!

Two weekends ago Crawford staged a protest for "Pro-American Americans".

On his Saturday night show he called for all Americans who support the war against Saddam to turn on their headlights during his show (8 to 10 PM). The response was overwhelming. Lo and behold, callers reported that every car on Austin's highways and byways had its headlights on.

So the deejay upped the ante. He not only asked ALL Americans to turn on their healights from 8 to 10 each night, he called for a Motorcade For War with Saddam---all those who love America and stand behind our troops in their soon-to-be war against Saddam were asked to participate in a motorcade Monday morning, 6 to 9, driving into Austin and filling up its roads and parking lots, turning the city into one giant traffic jam. The Motorcade on Monday morning was amazing and gratifying. Every freeway and side street was full of cars from 6 to 9 a.m., and by 9 virtually every parking lot in Austin was at least at 80% full! It was unbelievable!

And word must be spreading fast. Reports have it that these protests are occurring all over America.

Let's just hope all those leftie politicians get the message that Americans stand behind the president in the need to stop Saddam and to stop him soon.

;-)

What? You don't think this is for real???

Well, get this. Crawford wanted to show that the political class supports the prez too, so he called on all cities to turn on all their street lights from dusk 'til at least 10 PM....AND THEY DID IT!

Great guy.

Cheese lovers could switch from camembert and brie to stilton (a much better cheese IMHO).

Austin roads are totally congested without any protest cars - you would never be able to tell the difference. Ask anyone else who lives here, or has visited recently.

I'm announcing a Pro-War Congest the Streets Rally for this coming Monday morning. Pack the streets of Austin, warriors and patriots.

George W Bush is returning to the White House and is expected to speak at noon.

God bless the members of the shuttle, their families, the employees at NASA, and America.

And God Bless President Bush.
