The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I'm still trying to get a network printer to work. I finally sorta got a plotter doing what it's supposed to.

I just had lunch. Now I need a new excuse to break.

Um...tea time yet?

Did fix two problems, though. Get to close work orders. Gives me a sense of accomplishment, kinda sorta.

Okay, I just send this off to the Richmond Times-Disgrace in response to this article.

Since I typically read the Times-Dispatch over breakfast or lunch, I tend to avoid reading Michael Paul Williams. Whine is best served with dinner. But when a friend pointed out to me that Williams confessed that “I’m not one of those Americans who understands,” (Bush visit to Iraq just for show, 12/1/03) I had to take a look. Finally, Williams got something right.

What Williams doesn’t understand is that our troops welcomed with great enthusiasm a Thanksgiving Day visit from their Commander-in-Chief. Williams obviously doesn’t understand that the vast majority of our troops, while they would certainly prefer to be at home, know they’re there to do a job, and are determined to do it. Williams also obviously isn’t hearing directly from the troops, and he’s not receiving emails like this one “I told him that had I known that I was the one talking to him I would have wanted my soldiers there and how much of a moral booster this was to the soldiers. He then said we support you, America supports you and we took some pictures…It was so cool this has got to be the highlight of my career to be selected for such a great honor as this.”

That’s an excerpt shared with me by a family member of one of the soldiers who dined with the President.

Instead, Williams gets his knickers all in a snit because the President’s visit 1) interrupted his viewing of a dog show and 2) overshadowed the visits by Senators Clinton and Reed. A visit, I might add in which Senator Clinton issued the deplorable statement, “We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

The outcome is not assured? Way to boost morale Mrs. Clinton – for the terrorists.

See, unlike Williams, Clinton and Reed, what most Americans do understand is that we are still at war. Most of us understand that indeed our troops want to come home (we want them home as well) but there is still work to be done.

Williams whines that the President “waited until Thanksgiving.” Of course, if the President had chosen any other day the whine would have been “why couldn’t he go boost morale on a holiday?”

In his remarks to the troops the President said, “You're engaged in a difficult mission. Those who attack our coalition forces and kill innocent Iraqis are testing our will. They hope we will run. We did not charge hundreds of miles into the heart of Iraq, pay a bitter cost in casualties, defeat a brutal dictator and liberate 25 million people only to retreat before a band of thugs and assassins. We will prevail. We will win because our cause is just. We will win because we will stay on the offensive. And we will win because you're part of the finest military ever assembled. And we will prevail because the Iraqis want their freedom.”

What’s so difficult to understand?

Corin Stormhands

We'll see if it gets printed.

Think I've located a cable to connect the DVD player on the desktop to the TV/VCR. I just have to go home and make sure I have the right number of pins.

what is our closure-rate with the end of the thread

As of last night's last post, we have 19,220 to go to implosion. Our current post rate has averaged 2724 per week, which means that if we continue on as we have, the thread should last just over 7 more weeks. Even if we jumped up to the rate we had at the end of the last thread (we were averaging 844 posts per day that last week) we would still last over 3 more weeks... and I don't think we could maintain that rate for 3 weeks!

At current posting rate, we should be just over 52,000 by the time ROTK premiers (Dec. 17).

Seven weeks would mean...we'd be just about ready to start a new thread at Entmoot, right?

LF: Did you survive Wal-Mart?

Yes! And all my other errands too. The place was mighty picked over but I did manage to find Currier and Ives Christmas Cards! Wheee! They didn't have any of the wreaths I was looking for so I think I'm going to have to brave Bel Air ("Blair" as the locals say) and go to..*gasp*... Michaels. Ugh.

Well..
What shall I talk about?
On a different thread the conversation was about one of my FRiends going out for aperm.
I could talk about how I wanted to have the words on the Ring bleached into the back of my hair.

It's all an evil insidious plot to plot against plotting plotters.

It is super short notice... Maybe they are looking for someone who can do stuff on really short notice. If they want me, the job would start tomorrow. Ack!

I have worked at home for 3 years.... returning to 8-5 is really gonna cramp my style!
