Hmmmmm

... why Wilson and the CIA’s investigation did not explore at least the possibility of the French-led company COGEMA covertly allowing Niger to sell uranium to Iraq.

I missed this post first time around. Read on, and Joseph Wilson's motives become more clear.

Lets be fair about Wilson and early retirement. In the federal employment racket, you simply aren't going to get rich or make the big cash you desire. You simply reach a point where you have the points for retirement purposes and can collect a check and simply move onto the "cash cows". In the state department game, you go to the old contacts and get consulting positions and quickly pick up the $300k to $1 million deals that you dreamed of as a state department guy. Thats precisely what Wilson has done.

What does make this a bit interesting is that his focus in life is Africa and corrupt regimes. So he has sleep in their bed at the end of the day...he has no choice. He will milk this book and interview deal as much as possible....but eventually...he has no choice but climb right back into the bed of corrupt African businessmen. Thats the tail end of this entire episode...yet to come.

LOL. If only that were true. There are very few breaucrats who can parlay their State Department service into these "$300k to $1 million deals." And there are laws circumscribing what kind of positions you can take immediately after retiring. Military flag officers do better than most SES/SFS grade State Officers when they retire. The military/industrial complex facilitates moving from the public to the private sectors.

Until he cashed in on his new-found fame with a book and speaking fees, Wilson was not doing that well with his consulting business. The Niger/Plame affairs provided him with the opportunity to cash in.

Wow. I'm impressed. Fantastic work. The name Sami Al-Arian (can't remember where you referenced it), is that the same guy Bill O'Reilly went after? A college professor involved in financing Hamas? Funny that Wilson's first wife was Jewish, and so many of his associations are anti-semites.

Thanks. I'd need to look up what O'Reilly said about Sami Al-Arian, but there's a little on him in Post 89, and yes, he was the professor you're thinking of--here's a summary on him with details and links:

WOW! I was going thru my bookmarks looking for something entirely different and found that I had bookmarked this thread way back when you first posted it. I couldn't recall what the thread contained so I looked at it again just now. WOW! Fedora, you have collected some great references here!!

Ping to a few - just in case I'm not the only one who over-looked this great thread from the past

Great job, professional, actually.

I think that I remember reading that there was a connection between that guy from Detroit that was named in the Volker Report and the Alamoudi dynasty, as well. I seem to remember something about that trip to the Middle East that was arranged for the anti-war congress members (including Chuck Hagel). It really doesn't have anything to do with Wilson, though.
