CRAWFORD, Tex., Jan. 3 -- President Bush will propose protections for the Social Security taxes paid by the workers who would come into the country under massive changes to immigration laws he plans to announce on Wednesday, Republican officials said Saturday.

Bush's plan would make it possible for such workers from Mexico and perhaps other countries to collect retirement benefits without being penalized by their home countries for the years they spent working in the United States, the officials said.

Officials began releasing details of Bush's plan shortly before Christmas and provided new details over the weekend. The officials said Bush's plan will contain a new system to help workers who want to enter from Mexico or other countries if they have jobs waiting for them. It also includes a mechanism for some undocumented residents to continue working in the United States and get on a path to legal status.

Me? Lets write a few letters to our Congresscritters and tell them to ENFORCE THE IMMIGRATION LAWS instead of trying to 'fix' it by making our welfare system even more expansive!

Lotsa luck friend! I've got Linda Sanchez! That's gonna do me a lot of good!

Thank you. Why even complain about these things if you're going to help somebody like Howard Dean get elected? It makes no sense. Once again the single issue zealots threaten to help throw Bush out and give us something worse.

THANK YOU......YOU'VE PROVEN MY POINT SUCCINTLCLY.

Tunnels found in Nogales tied to smuggling Mexican and U.S. officials are investigating the discovery of two smuggling tunnels found late Wednesday in Nogales, Sonora. -- Local police were searching an area on the western end of the city after a series of reports of suspicious activity when they tried to chase people into storm drains. When they didn't find anybody in the drain, police assumed they had used a tunnel.

From the link you pinged me too

The U.S. Border Patrol also saw an increase in the amount of marijuana seized so far this fiscal year with 120,692 pounds confiscated from Oct. 1 through the end of December compared to 90,696 pounds in the same three month period in 2002, he said.

Agents from the Naco Station seized 21,738 pounds so far this budget year compared to 10,670 from October through December in 2002, Adame said.

Douglas Station agents seized 10,363 pounds from Oct. 1 compared to 6,164 pounds in 2002, he said.

Sounds to me that the border has tightened if the amount of siezures has gone up so dramatically???????

Is there even any proof that this will gain Bush all that many votes? The last amnesty didn't really help the Republicans --- it actually went the other way. Hispanics in this are (which there are a lot of) voted Silvestre Reyes into office just because they liked his firm stance on border control.

I guess price on the street of illegal drugs would be a better indication if drugs are more plentiful or less plentiful --- I have no clue.

I've read the article three times and can't find anything about amnesty. The Bush Administration better do a good job of explaining, without any doubt, exactly what they propose in the way of reform. I ,like you, will wait and actually hear the facts before I draw any conclusions. Interesting title though by the WP,people see Immigrant and Protection and immediately jump to the conclusion that it's an amnesty proposal-without reading the article.Perhaps that was their intent.

"Officials said Bush's proposals draw heavily on a bill introduced by Sen. John McCain, his rival in the 2000 primaries, and Reps. Jim Kolbe and Jeff Flake, all Arizona Republicans. That bill would create a Web-based Labor Department database of jobs that would be open first to U.S. workers and then to foreigners, who could be admitted with a "temporary worker" visa available for a maximum of six years.

The Arizonans' bill proposes a new type of visa for workers who are now in the United States illegally. They could come forward and receive this visa for three years. After that, the formerly undocumented worker could apply for a temporary visa like those held by workers under the electronic job registry.

Immigration reform is a top priority of Bush's backers in the business community. Daniel T. Griswold, an immigration expert at the free-enterprise-oriented Cato Institute, called Bush's proposal "compassionate conservatism at its best -- a market-driven approach allowing supply and demand to get together in the labor market."

Please join us! Freeper Zipporah will be posting the GrassRoots CamPain to write in Tancredo in March - Bush is fixing to 'legalize line-jumping'

Freeper Winker's Creed:

No Person can be considered a "Contributor" to America un-less they are Identified,fingerprinted, placed on the Tax rolls and Social Security with a permanent Address making them a legal Tax paying Citizen;
subject to all the rights and provisions this Country provides to its citizens. Otherwise they continue to be a scab and a botch "WE THE PEOPLE"are obligated to support.

This is a pay as you go society and not a free lunch. If you live here you work here speak the FIRST Language and swear allegiance to the Constitution then you get to share equally in a system "EVERBODY" Supports and pays into! Time to come out of the woodworks and live in the open or follow your noses back across the Borders!

Yes I did --- a third or so went for the recall --- showing that pandering didn't help Davis all that much.

But see Bob, your missing the message. We have sent hundreds of emails, faxes and made hundreds of phone calls and DC does NOT care! They would still 'attempt' to pander these votes than keep us safe! And 'this' is UNACCEPTABLE after 911!!!

" Washington Post reports this morning that President Bush and Karl Rove-in order to appeal to Hispanic voters-are poised to announce a sweeping amnesty plan during the second week of January"

Where in the Washington Post article does it say anything about amnesty or citizenship?

Why did you flag me to this thread?
Cause I was on your flag list on all the other threads in this regard.

Yes, but you asked to be removed, and I obliged.

You think that there is way too much time wasted of FR on these threads, have asked to be removed from a ping list, and you have been obliged. Then you post on these very threads and flag those whose ping lists from which you'd opted out, and flag the owner of the website along with me?

Sorry, I'm not buying it.

You've surprised me on twice: you're playing games, and with little skill.

Quit mincing words, and state your purpose.

Once again the single issue zealots threaten to help throw Bush out and give us something worse.

It may seem that there are are tons of people that are 1 issue voters. I am not one of those but yet this issue is looming bigger and bigger for the US. None of us want something worse than what we have. But at some point we the people should have some say about immigration. And from what we're hearing we have a right to complain. And our complaints are being told to our President and Senators and Congressmen/women. I work in an area that there are many many illegals are and they expect an individual to know Spanish so they can get what they want. Never before has an ALIEN expected to know their language to get what they want.
