CRAWFORD, Tex., Jan. 3 -- President Bush will propose protections for the Social Security taxes paid by the workers who would come into the country under massive changes to immigration laws he plans to announce on Wednesday, Republican officials said Saturday.

Bush's plan would make it possible for such workers from Mexico and perhaps other countries to collect retirement benefits without being penalized by their home countries for the years they spent working in the United States, the officials said.

Officials began releasing details of Bush's plan shortly before Christmas and provided new details over the weekend. The officials said Bush's plan will contain a new system to help workers who want to enter from Mexico or other countries if they have jobs waiting for them. It also includes a mechanism for some undocumented residents to continue working in the United States and get on a path to legal status.

"The proposals will be a test for Bush because some House Republicans are skeptical and even hostile to the idea of liberalizing immigration controls...

Good! I hope Congress kicks Bush's butt on this! Bush should concentrate on the 3,000,000 Americans who have lost their jobs since he took office instead of worry about millions of illegal aliens... I voted for Bush in '00, but I can guarantee you it won't happen again.

I don't know if this petition will help (I found here at FreeRepublic), but I signed it and you might think about signing it, too... Thanks

I know GW needs some hispanic votes..but this kind of pandering is not acceptable. The Social Security system should be scraped, not enlarged by giving US taxpayers money to criminals.

These aliens are here illegally; they are breaking the law; they are paying money tantamount to bribery, into the Social Security system for which they have now obvious political gains made with President Bush, and he dares to aid and abett their criminal activities by summarily declaring that they have some right to get their money back!

What, is Bush insane?

What good is it to fight the terror war abroad if we're going to actively encourage illegal immigration and give terrorists an even greater smokescreen with which to obscure their migration to the U.S.?

By George, I think you're right. No self-respecting right-winger, not even a paleocon, would parrot the Democrat line so closely.

By the way, saw a piece yesterday where the Wall Street Journal is saying that the upswing in the economy brought about by the tax cuts and low interest rates is making companies profitable and putting people back to work. Something like 1.5 million new jobs will be created by November. Even manufacturing is booming. Who woulda thunk it?

I agree in scraping the Social Security system but it has to be done in small steps over 30 years.

Lets see what Bush's whole program is on illegals and SSN before we whine about news bites !

Mike Allen did not quote a single Bush Administration official, he quote Frank Sharry, an immigration advocate and that's it, The rest is pure speculation.

We have seen this nonsense so many times from the NYT's, LAT's and the WP. There is no plan released, and as before, these liberal rags will try to use this issue to divide us, but nothing even simular to what Make Allen of the WP claims will ever come out of Congress. The House will never pass anything even remotely close to this

Don't forget that the increase in jobs is all illegal aliens, not Americans.

This is for the "I won't vote foe Bush Ever Again Crowd of Idiots".

Why vote for Bush if he's going to do things like this? How do you intend to change his mind about proposing amnesties if you fully support him and intend to vote for him?

If you're opposed to any form of amnesty, you can send Bush and other politicians a FAX here: http://www.numbersusa.com/faxcenter

For more information, see these:

"No Amnesty for Millions of Illegal Immigrants"

"Social Security Funds for Illegal Aliens?"

There's a good editorial from Lou Dobbs here:

And, there's more contact information here:

(Although, as another commentator suggested, "stop immigration now" is a really bad title.)

There seems to be nothing in this at all for the American people. Some trade. In most deals there is a give and take but this is just give and give and give. Fox demands something, offers nothing --- he refused support on Iraq but we have to give in to everything he decides to dictate.

Bob, could you also be bold enough to also oppose illegal immigration and wrongful acts by our President?

I certainly hope you're not using that post/reply to put yourself forward as an original thinker.

Forget it. There are millions more illegal aliens than people he put out of work. The net vote gain is in Jorge's favor. Welcome to the Republican (not conservative) New World Order.
