MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama Gov. Bob Riley called for a travel boycott of Aruba on Tuesday until authorities on the Dutch Caribbean island cooperate more fully with the family of a Mountain Brook teenager who has been missing since a graduation trip in May.
Riley asked the governors of the other 49 states to join him in urging a boycott of Aruba on behalf of the family of Natalee Holloway, an 18-year-old Mountain Brook High graduate last seen on the island May 30.
Her mother, Beth Holloway-Twitty, joined Riley at the Alabama Capitol for the boycott announcement. She contends Aruban authorities have failed to adequately investigate the possible murder of her daughter, who was with a teenager, Dutch national Joran van der Sloot, and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe on the night she disappeared.
They were held for a time and released.

Aruba has bent over backwards trying to solve this case and has spent millions for the Permanent Vacation Natalie's family has been on since her death.

You need to get up to speed on the facts. Read Dave Holloway's account of ALE's efforts.
"Dave: Well, when we first arrived on the island we rented a car. We stopped at two different police stations and explained the situation. I explained that I am the father of Natalee Holloway and she is missing. The first comment was would you like to file a complaint? Finally after talking to several officers in those two police departments, they indicated they were not aware of any disappearance and not aware of any complaint. So the directed me to the Noord police station which supervises the area around the Holiday Inn. When I arrived at that police station, the detective knew I was coming and I was frantic as you can imagine a parent being who has their daughter missing. I walked up to the front desk accompanied by my brother and brother in law.
I identified myself as the father of Natalee Holloway and Jacobs got up from his chair and grumbled “Well, how much money you got?” We were just stunned and everyone finally came together and we met in the back room He basically told us “Aw, this happens all the time, go down to C&C and have a beer and just wait on her and she’ll show up.” We questioned his tactics and wanted to know if a search was being conducted. He just looked at us and said “Why would you want to do that?” “Think positive, you’re thinking negative.” I said well the first few days are the most critical.
He indicated to us you are on the wrong page and you need to go search a drug house or whatever. And then he made the comment that “Look, I need to get with you guys. There have been some reports that some of Jugs friends have been busting up in some of these crack houses.” I was again floored. I thought how do you know about crack houses and who’s up in them, but you are not even aware someone is missing? You know, give me a break."
"Dave: I don’t know, sometimes I wonder now what the real motive is. I met with them again this past week and again one of the references was how money do you have and how long can you continue searching for your daughter. He said “Most of these cases we would have quit investigating long ago.” That’s when I decided we need a change."

"Dave: We felt that we had a real key witness that I felt if he was interviewed properly that it could break this case. I went to the chief and expressed my concerns with the investigative team for one. I mentioned this witness as well. We had been watching the witness and knew he was very nervous. We felt like the time to strike is now while the iron is hot. I spoke with him that day, and the next day I called him early that morning.
I asked him “Gerold do me a favor. I’ve hung with you this long and can you please, please handle this interrogation?” I think if you handle it right, we could possibly solve this case. As of today, that has yet to be done."

"Dave: I had very good communications with them up until Thursday. When I left the island, it seemed like the light switch went off. I left a couple of friends down there with Texas Equusearch and they were needing assistance. They indicated that once I left the island, no phone calls would be returned and they didn’t get any assistance. Tim became very upset, as you have heard on another show. He was ready to go ahead with Beth’s comments about boycotting Aruba. When that was mentioned, he received a phone call all apologetic and that sort of thing. So, I don’t know. It seems like when the press gets on them, they want to work with everyone. Then when the press gets off of them things go back to the usual."
Time heals all wounds. It's all just water under the bridge. Lets just put this behind us and move on. They got away with it, and there's nothing we can do about it. Let's all just vacation in Arruba, keep feeding their economy, along with the corruption that allows the perps to escape justice. All they have to do is drag it out until the evidence goes away, and then it will be months after the fact. We should also not keep prisoners in prison months after the fact, and if you can avoid paying your bills for months, then you should never have to pay them back.
Had I been in this situation, the Aruban authorities wouldn't have had it so easy. I'd be busy cracking skulls figuratively the moment they let off the three punks (who are the prime suspects in this case) a second time around five months ago.
It might help to actually know what you are talking about before you insinuate that Natalie's activities that evening were provocative in some way to this situation. Of course, you could do the normal "flaming fundy" crap that makes Christians appear the prudish, uptight, intolerant bunch of judgmental twits that secularists love to parody and insist that Natalie was "engaged in wickedness" and thus culpable for being raped and then either sold into slavery or murdered.

I will pray for all of you as you are performing your vile execrable acts, and if you die in a plane crash, you will probably go to hell. your friend, Natalie." You know being a Christian means just being good, despite all that talk about grace and faith and stuff. That is just a trick, you know, to get you in and get you started keeping OUR rules. You know you have to be HOLY to be a Christian..... like me.
You might ask me 'brother Bob, how can I be like you?" Well, I don't know....., it took me YEARS to get this way, but thank God I have finally arrived!!! Let's pray, shall we?"

That is what I have seen also, i would offer that the ten (or so) days that the car in question from that night was allowed to be running around could have been cleaned out.
I hold onto the idea she may be alive, I just doubt it.
I do think otyher possabilities exist besides three premeditated killers out for blood.
Another possability I thought of was that maybe she was left alone on the beach by joran that night. It is quite possible that she went for an evening dip and that was her end. Not likely mind you...but possible.

I see it being very possible this is yet another deal where what happened isn't nearly as bad as the attempted cover up of what it LOOKS like.

I get so irritated at people who, in the name of morality, attempt to throw any of the blame on Natalie (a family friend of one of my best friends in HS). Even if the girl had been slutting around with every guy on the beach, it would not even BEGIN to justify blaming her....., but that simply was not the case. She was a good kid (as kids go), whose big crime was naivete.

Maybe they weren't Christians when they divorced!! Besides, that's God's business not ours and regardless, this is about what happened to their beautiful daughter.

My only beef in this whole matter is the unwarranted time spent by Fox news and the rest of the cable media on this case. Since the girl was killed there have been thousands of other killings many unsolved. Why no interest in them?

If Aruba could have solved this quickly it would have since it has cost the tourist industry millions already.

And you don't have a clue as to where anyone's responsibility began or ended, so the far far far better thing to do would be to cease making stupid irresponsible assertions like you have some idea that you do. The only thing we know is that the responsibility lies with those who abducted her. Beyond that, you know nothing. Zip, zilch, nada. To imply that you have knowledge of Natalie, drugs, drink, sex or anything else is simply a stupid irresponsible rumor mongering assertion. Start from there, and we can talk about personal responsibility all you wish.
