Well, this is an interesting twist. Hopefully, the professor was not seriously injured, and since he was treated and released, it sounds like he wasn't. How sad that some frevolutionists are exploiting this man's injuries to promote their own agenda against creationists. These were no more agents of creationism than an abortion clinic bomber is an agent of the pro-life movement.
I'm disappointed that we haven't seen more condemnation of these morons from the creationist camp. Instead, we've seen lots of skepticism and holier-than-thous.
If this was faked, then the man ought to go to jail. And I'll lead the charge. If it wasn't, then all creationists need to come out loudly condemning these thugs.
If the creationists don't, they're no better than the "moderate Muslims" who say they decry the violence but won't actually raise a voice to stop it.
Time will tell. But if an arrest is made, or a perp identified, then I expect the creationists to apologize and loudly condemn the morons.
"Instead, we've seen lots of skepticism and holier-than-thous."
I don't see how skepticism is incompatible with condemnation. I think the majority would agree that if it did actually occur, it should be condemned. There are a sad few who seem to disagree, but I think that's what most of us think. It probably didn't happen (way too many red flags), but if it did, then the people responsible should be held accountable.
"But if an arrest is made, or a perp identified, then I expect the creationists to apologize and loudly condemn the morons."
I won't apologize, but I will (and am) loudly condemn any such behavior.
Isn't it interesting, though, that the automatic assumption on your part is that, until saying otherwise, creationists support this? Of course creationists don't advocate violence. This is kind of a "DUH" thing.
What have you seen from me? Skepticism? Nope. Holier-than-thou? No. Address the people you feel are responsible for those attributes, not me.
It didn't even occur to me that the incident could have been faked. Perhaps I don't suspect vehemont anti-God professors as much as I should.
Perhaps you should observe some of the polite feedback I received from evolutionists on my profile, as well as the crown jewel in my gallery of insults -- from a creationist, no less -- when I asked him to be nice.
Couple of differences here, though.
In the case of Muslim terrorists, they are picking random civilians--to KILL. And solely for not being Muslim. And then they post videos of the murder (sawing off of heads, anyone?) on the internet for the hapless victim's family to see. Or pin Muslim screeds to the victim's chest with the knife used to kill him.
And then they publically take credit.
In this case, you have a guy who was publically bragging about humiliating a certain subset of Christians.
Then he shows up with some wounds, a vague description, and alleging that Christians beat him up. This is of not much evidentiary value either way: there is a track record of all sorts of people from all different walks of life, faking assaults and attacks. No particular slur on Darwinists. But on the other hand, someone who has just been roughed up might not have known in advance what was coming, in order to pay especial attention to the make of the pickup truck, etc. So as far as that goes, it's a wash.
And in the meantime, you might note that if he WAS beat up, the perps did not videotape the beating, and did not issue public statements about "Dembski akhbar" or what ever.
Try a more reasoned approach rather than napalm--the thread will be a lot more civilized.
