That episode was broadcast in "Spooky Vision"
The very first episode is Jesus vs. Santa Claus in an all out battle over Christmas. Jesus even has his own talk show! South Park lampoons everything, left, right, religious, atheist, hippie, conservative etc...and in as poor taste as possible.
But as the saying goes, if you don't like it, the TV comes with a switch that changes the channel and another one that TURNS IT OFF!
Remember the skit with Rosie O'Donnell showing up to defend some kid in school because he was being discriminated?? That was really funny. They really slammed Rosie there.
I don't like to see the Blessed Virgin portrayed like that. But I give Southpark a break because I admire them very much. They are absolutely fearless in trashing and thrashing everyone and everything that needs it in this world. Very few people have the courage to take on everybody -- including the muzzies.
Besides, they didn't attack her nature, they just lampooned the types that flock to see an image of Mary in a piece of toast.
No, only after she had Jesus's brothers (e.g., James) that are mentioned in the Bible, what, 20 times?
I've watched it a few times but could only tolerate it for about 5 minutes each time. That's pretty much all you have to watch of it. You could repeat the first 5 minutes 6 times and you've got yourself a half-hour show.
Was that episode REALLY making fun of Jesus, or was there a subtler point to it? Like maybe the fact that we've replaced Jesus with Santa?
Exactly. I love SP. My daughters cannot believe this :)
The episode: The Spirit of Christmas (Jesus vs. Santa)

Santa vs. Christ deathmatch
I watch it all the time. I am a South Park conservative.
ding, ding, ding!
We have a winner!
Of course, those who never saw the show and all they know if it is its title, Jesus vs. Santa, would immediately assume it was mocking and making fun of Jesus.
Ditto to all those defending South Park. I love the show (even thou sometimes I am offended.. I "get it"). The show in question ripped on AA, not Catholics. I am Catholic and yeah was a tiny bit put off by the visuals .. I got the message loud and clear.
You have to put into perspective the writers. They are Libertarians and they will bash all political parties and are much more in line with conservative views.
They also (usually) offer up some sort of message. -- Did anyone see the episode when they ripped on NO and Katrina and Global climate changes.. ?????
Get a grip guys and take a chill pill. It's raunchy humor. Don't watch it if you can't handle it. It's DEFINITELY not a show for kids.
LOL. No one would call me a South Park liberal...or an anyting liberal for that matter.
Well said, South Park Republican.
I happen to like South Park.
Yes, there are some individual episodes I might turn off. But I don't stop altogether.
Cartman, to Jesus: Your birthday's on CHRISTMAS? That SUCKS, dude!
;)
Perhaps you could continue watching your program until you need glasses.
Yeah that's right! I bought the tape.
They had one with somebody's grandma being disinterred to scare some other kids and a dog ate her corpse.
I liked the one with the underwear dwarves stealing Cartman's underwear.
Then there was the one with Cartman as a born-again evangelist.
When thye get too crass or offensive, I vote with my fingers and turn them off.
Only up tight puckered mouth prudes don't watch South Park. I am a Roman Catholic and I watch it and I like it. You have to understand....they make fun of every thing and everyone. It happens. Someone has to do it! Someone should be around who knocks everyone off their high horse once in a while. It's healthy!! It's funny. Get over it.
