The computer was invented to handle the US Census. It helped a lot.

I think you can't quite imagine the mountain of records kept by the US government ~ huge, huge, huge.

It's mind boggling. USPS, which is only a small part of the government had enormous files of stuff just for its business customers (who use special services all the time, have permits, and pay by check into advanced deposit accounts). There are about 7 million such customers.

Imagine what the aggregate count was for Change of Address Orders during the Obama Recession (which is still taking place). Millions of unemployed people moving all over the country ~ and many multiple times. That file is stupendously large, but fortunately it's all electronic.

USPS was able to hold its basic employment levels FLAT from about 1969 to 2004 ~ in the face of rising mail volumes and huge numbers of records ~ through the simple expedient of putting computers to work doing everything that could be converted to a computer process.

Just talking about this with a close associated and I've come to the opinion that if there's any "forgery" in this I probably know the forger ~ and she's a retired Postal Inspection Service employee.

Not likely anyone outside would have the breadth of experience or technical knowledge to figure out every little thing that you have to do to make a process like this look normal and legitimate.

I'll call her and ask her if she's forging this stuff (soon as I can find out where she lives).

Now, about State Department people losing stuff ~ they probably lied about it, but they are not as technically advanced as USPS ~ except for the CIA part ~ but they don't tell you about that stuff or what they know. I can say I've never heard of CIA losing a President's records.

So, let me toss this back to you ~ do you think the State Department would lie? (/s) ~ that "s" is for "snork" and "snicker".

That stupid discussion has nothing to do with digital imaging, so DONT GET SUCKED IN ANYMORE ‘stone- that is muawiyah’s purpose, i think.

I have been a software engineer doing contract work in and out of government agencies for over 25 years.

They have some of the worst and most archaic computer systems in the world. And they are paying millions for them. I worked at one place where they had a 30 year old mainframe to do one database I rewrote in Microsoft Access for them in about a week.

They coninue to use the 30 year old mainframe and pay about 6 people to run it, along with hundreds of thousands in lease payments.
