ORLANDO, Fla. Beginning on Tuesday, more than 150,000 people will be in Orlando for the annual Gay Days event.
Eyewitness News learned that event organizers are expecting record crowds, and hotels are already booked solid.
Gay Days started 20 years ago as a celebration of gay pride at Orlando's most famous theme park, but now it is an economic powerhouse that pumps significant money into local businesses.
The Parliament House Resort and Night Club has been planning for the event since November.
"We couldn't do it if we didn't start that early," said Drew Sizemore with the Parliament House Resort.
The hotel caters to gay clients and its 130 rooms are sold out and so are the 950 rooms at the Double Tree near SeaWorld, where most of the events are being held.
For the first time, Gay Days is expecting more than 160,000 people.
"We travel around the country promoting it throughout the year, so I think we are reaching more people through our face-to-face meetings as well as our online," said Chris Manley, president of Gay Days.
The event kicks off on Tuesday at the Macy's at Mall at Millenia. Officials are expecting the entire parking lot to be full because Macy's is going to be giving a 10 percent discount on everything from clothes to sunglasses.
Gay Days will also have an expo at the Double Tree, starting on Thursday and ending Sunday.
Local bars will also get a boost.
The Parliament House is bringing in 27 bar tenders this weekend, nearly double the number on a regular weekend night.
"We don't like people to wait in line, we want them to be able to come in and get a drink, have a good time (and) go see a show," said Sizemore.
For the first time, Gay Days is also holding a similar event this year in Las Vegas. However, because that event is in September, the planners do not believe it will take away from visitors in Orlando.
Think I’ll skip DW from now on. Too bad, was interested in the animal park.
The “gay” agenda in a nutshell (npi).
I used to live in the Central Florida region. Between Gay Days and the ticket prices, (even for residents), I just stopped going. The interesting thing is that my children also stopped wanting to go.
I had heard from others that the major customers for Disney were from foreign nationals and that the locals, (Americans), while welcome weren’t their bread and butter any more.
Is Ubama going to be The Grand Marshall for the daily parade?
That woulda been fun.
Isn’t there a “tropical depression” dampening events this week?
In 2003 I was getting an early start leaving Orlando around 7:30 a.m. Had been working with Army reserve units. Surfing the AM band I came upon a talk show where a Hispanic accented host was practically screaming, “Don’t take your kids to Disney World!! It’s Gay Pride week at DW! You don’t want them to see all those perverts!”
It was this time of year, come to think of it. I hear more horror stories about DW than what a great time folks had, anhyway. Oh, well.

Heh, heh, tried to correct a misspelling on the fly and got a double post (note `anyhway’). Sorry.....
Hide the women and children!
Hide the Chilren.
There will be tons of women there.
They might be dressed as men , but I am sure snap-on tools has a booth there, just for them.
Orlando is not a hotspot for couples, but rather for families.
So why have homosexuals chosen Orlando instead of Vegas, Cancun, etc.??
Simple and clear. Its an in your face demand for acceptance.
Really? Chris Manley? There is a picture of this guy (?) in the dictionary beside the word 'misnomer'...
Well, you have to go at the right hour of the day to see the animals - and those hours are overwhelmingly crowded. When we went, the animals were all asleep - completely out of sight. Very disappointing. But the trappings of the trip - pretending to be in Africa - are a lot of fun.
Interesting that they (disney) want to bring the homosexuals into the resort right after Memorial Day weekend and right when many schools are letting out.
Puts a real crimp in the old family vacation. Who wants to go to a park with thousands of perverts running around?
I feel sorry for families that inadvertantly booked this week for their DW vacation. I know of a familt that did so. My friends have refused to go since they found out but their other family members say what the heck, let’s go antway. It is causing a big division in their family. I’m sure they’re not the only family.
Sad thing was that this sort of behavior was routine in some SoFlo area public restrooms or rest stops. They had to post guards or lock public RRs up altogether during off hours.
Wasn't George Michael arrested for similar behavior in LA? Same thing in SoFlo on a regular basis.
Want to see a gay rights advocate melt down? Ask them this:
So if I understand the official gay line of thought, gay people are born that way, they do not choose to be gay. Thus it's natural and you cannot be judgemental about it; indeed if you do make judgements you are little different than a racist who dislikes people for other natural things like skin color, is that about it?
So pedophiles are born that way too, right? Can I judge them or is what they want to do okay?
