With NRA, Gun As First Rather Than Last Resort

As the national debate on gun violence continues and Americans search for answers to curb the current onslaught some people claim the mental health situation is the key issue to address--not new gun legislation.

But does this sentiment stand up to closer scrutiny, or, is it just a convenient excuse being used by the NRA and others to kill legislation designed to restrict assault weapons?

Since the murders of 27 people—including 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary, and the gunman's own mother at home, in Newtown, Connecticut, politicians on Capitol Hill have been forced to address the issue of the easy availability of assault weapons.

Last week, people on several sides of the gun debate appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss gun violence and the proposed legislation being pushed by Democrats that would ban military-style weapons, multi-bullet clips and institute a universal background check system. Among them was embattled NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre who continued to deny tighter gun controls would minimize violent gun deaths.

“As I said earlier, we need to be honest about what works and what does not work,” Mr. LaPierre said. “Proposals that would only serve to burden the law-abiding have failed in the past and will fail in the future.”

Mr. LaPierre also stated “Law-abiding gun owners will not accept blame for the acts of violent or deranged criminals. Nor do we believe the government should dictate what we can lawfully own and use to protect our families.” The NRA leader said background checks were not the answer because “let's be honest background checks will never be universal because criminals will never submit to them.”(continued)

Correction:

"politicians on Capitol Hill have been forced eager to address the issue of the easy availability of assault weapons. "

“multi-bullet clips”

The people who write the laws should have an expertise in writing them.

So should the reporters.

I would call professional malfeasance on their part.

No need to start. It’s agitprop. It’s nothing more than a long lie disguised as an article. No one familiar with the NRA would accuse them of promoting guns as a first solution to any problem.

Unilateral disarmament. Yep, that's going to work swell.

I imagine that North Korea and Iran have just been waiting to hear that the USA has become a pacifist disarmed nation. Let the hugging begin.

The author of the article came very close to an important truth. He recognized that mental illness is not the entire problem. Much of the problem is EVIL. That seems to be a concept that liberals simply want to deny, despite the clear lessons of history.

I'm also getting quite tired of hearing La Pierre referred to as "the gun lobby" and the suggestion made that somehow Pierre is most interested in gun company profits.

The dishonesty in failing to recognize that La Pierre represents between four and five million gun owners is pretty brazen. The least we are owed by the media is to call us "the gun owners lobby". But they can't do that without admitting that our chief interest is not corporate profits, but rather the protection of the Second Amendment.

As a “last resort” I guess after you failed to talk them out of raping and murdering you wife and kids, and once they are dead it would be ok to shoot them?

Another nitwit with a keyboard slamming words together when they have no idea what they are writing about.

I seriously hope America isn't dumbed down enough to believe this twit.

You’re right.. where to start!? So many different fronts but we have to pick somewhere and start. Lib’s don’t reason, they have an adgenda and stick to it. They will completely ignore reason when presented to them, deflect and get back on track with thier adgenda.
I hear all the time our Republic refered to as a democracy. It is NOT a democracy.. demoocracy is defined as 2 wolves & a sheep deciding what to have for dinner.
I’m not sure the sheep would go along with the vote! We must make aware All instances of ‘news journalists’ incorrectly using the term. The 0 always talks about ‘we created (fill in) so many jobs, but you never hear about how many were lost in the same time period. Come on Pub’s get with the program!!! attack, attack, attack! Stop the defense.. it don’t work!
I do not own an “assalut weapon” I’ve not had my hands on one since USMC. I do have what may look like one but sorry folks it’s not full auto, therefore dosen’t pass the smell test for an “a weapon”. If it scares the lib’s because of it’s looks.. well.. tough!! the world is full of scarey crap! Get over it. If you’re want true scarey, look in the mirror at the bags, sags and wrinkles on your face! If that doesn’t scare you I don’t know what will.

This ties in perfectly with Daniel Greenfield’s (sultanknish.com) latest article. What the writer wrote is bull-puckey, we all know that. However they problem is the readers of this nonsense know no better.

We have got to get the conservative message into the minority neighborhoods, and the only way to do that is to concentrate on getting minority conservatives involved in the effort.

As Greenfield points out, the liberals have a huge head start on us with blacks and Hispanics, however the Indian and Asian communities are still fresh. A concentrated effort to win over these groups by reaching out to their leaders can pay great dividends for the cause in the future. We have to start spending money on their radio stations and newspapers instead of trying to mass-blast the message through traditional media outlets.

We know that our message is stronger and has more appeal to many of the more patriarchic cultures, where strong families, honor and decency are important. It’s time to start an outreach program to their leaders, and giving them positions of importance in our party. Bottom line, they are as opposed to amnesty and gay marriage as we are. However the lib’s have been able to sell them the illusion that the Republicans are just a bunch of old white men that refuses to give anyone else a share of the pie. They have been extremely effective at pushing false narratives, and one of the ways they do it is by targeting minority groups through their advertising mediums such as minority radio stations, foreign language magazines, etc...

We can do the same, however we must aggressively recruit their leaders and being them on board. That will mean providing them with some pork. The lib’s understand it, and use it very successfully to their advantage as you can see by this ridiculous article.

Conservatives and supporters of the 2nd amendment the Obama regime is using the 2nd amendment argument to blame gun owners for its inability to deal with the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings commited in areas under their solid control using illegally obtained firearms.

Obama’s solution to those inner city problems is to remove those rights provided by the constitution to have and bear arms from all US citizens before any search an seizure begins in those troublesome areas which by the way will never happen.

But none of those 23 so called “reforms” and unconstitutional efforts being edicted by who some call an emperor do not deal with the following issues briefly outlined below let alone insane shooters using stolen weapons. .

They won’t because instead of creating a uniformly democratic society where every citizen has an equal voice no matter what their race or ethnicity.

Obama’s policies have divided races and ethnic groups gerrymandering congressional districts where much of this criminal activity occurs.

The purpose of all this hype on guns is to keep the right and conservatives focused on what the Demo-Coms describe as issues through their propaganda arm known as the MSM (mainline socialist media) not on the problems created by the “Libs” on their road of good intentions or the socialist/fascists/communists successors to comtrol over todays Democrat party;

Which is the cost ,waste, and corruption of this administration which had led to a 16 trillion dollar deficit.

Not one word addresses or offers a solution about the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings using illegaly obtained mostly handguns and revolvers .

Perpetuating the general populations ignorance and using code words like “assault rifles” they’re demonizing single shot per trigger pull semi automatic rifles, used for small game hunting or target practice. That are legal in every state but made to look like their military counterpart..

Military AR’s since Viet Nam and a DOD decision ARs are really medium caliber (22.3) machine guns designed to wound not necessarilly kill which is why they are automatic and fire as many rounds that are in its magazine once the trigger is kept in the pulled position.

They replace quick kill 30 caliber semi automatic (single shot) M-1, Springfield rifles and carbines used during WWII and Korea and approved in most states for use in big game hunting.

Obama certainly can’t critique a system created by his ilk .Ignored in his 23 edicts is that when once caught, perps get set free with lenient sentencing from “liberal” judges or sob sister plea bargain prosecution (which Obama supports for when a Illinois state senator while introducing legislation to sentence any 15 year old as an adult,(opps they could be fatherless) Obama voted “absent” with others on that roll call vote. But that leniency is promoted by the MSM,The New York Times CNN, NBC and,ABC. There’s certainly no criticism of “no snitch” mentality partcularly in areas where these shootings are rampant.

It’s been my experience that ‘guns first’ is the ONLY option when faced with an imminent threat to your life. It’s very difficult to fight back when you’re dead.

First resort? You better believe it. In my state I am not required to retreat note give a verbal warning. Someone busts through my locked door their first (and last) clue this was a bad idea will be every round in my magazine. All 15 in the case of my 9mm or all 30 out of my AR if they are really unlucky...

> assault weapons? What is an assault weapon?

Last month DHS purchased 7000 AR-15 Rifles. DHS labeled thaem as “Personal Protection Weapons”.
I am to conclude that this is formal recognition that an AR-15 is NOT an assault weapon, but has been identified by the federal government as a Personal protection Weapon.

Ted Nugent to Attend State of the Union
Monday, February 11, 2013 06:43 PM

A Republican congressman says he’s invited rocker Ted Nugent, who has referred to President Barack Obama’s administration as “evil, America-hating,” to the State of the Union address.

Rep. Steve Stockman of Texas said Monday on his website that Nugent will be his guest for the president’s speech Tuesday night. Stockman has talked of impeaching Obama over his gun control proposals.
