Oh, Craigslist. You are so helpful for finding last-minute tickets, used vinyl records, and perfectly good furniture. You’re also good for reminding us that ridiculous people exist. In this case, specifically, people who enjoy watching actors role-play the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin altercation at a birthday party on Long Island.
“HI MY FRIENDS AND I ARE HAVING A PARTY THIS WEEKEND AND WE ARE LOOKING TO HIRE TWO ACTORS TO COME IN AND ROLE PLAY THE TREVYON MARTIN/GEORGE ZIMMERMAN ALTERCATION,” the spelling-error-laden advertisement reads screams in all-caps.
The ad doesn’t specify whether the actors should be lookalikes or just people of similar complexion, but, “ONE PERSON WOULD BE SMALLER AND THE OTHER A BIT BIGGER. ITS A JOKE AND WOULD ONLY GO FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. EMAIL ME IF YOU’RE INTERESTED AND I’LL GIVE YOU SOME MORE IDEAS.”
What kind of party is this?!?! Is it some kind of twisted sex/voyeur party? No, says the headline seeking actors for a “non-sexual” role. (Though, it does specify that this is for “comedy,” so ha?). So who’s it for?

I had an ex-friend telling me that Trayvon was shot in the back, another one getting really angry that Zimmerman got off.
After trying to not get into a heated argument with them, I came to the conclusion that they believe it’s okay to assault someone that is following you. Then I left.
This is tame compared with the other craigslist depravity.
I think they should make it a GAY scene, they’d attract the interest of a lot more actors

This reminds me of a very silly thing my brothers and I did years ago. But let me say right now that we were kids, little kids!
It must have been around 1969 or so (I’m terrible at remembering these things, I should ask my youngest brother if he remembers doing this). We went to visit my mom’s friend in suburban NJ. She didn’t have any kids, so there were no indigenous kid things for us to do. However, she lived in a place that had balcony.
Now we were dyed in the wool apartment dwellers from NYC, we had actually never seen a balcony in real life before.
This instantly reminded us of the iconic photo of Martin Luther King being shot while on the balcony of whatever hotel/motel that was. The one with the people pointing to where the shot had come from. (And you know, if I’m messing any of this up, what can I say, I was 10!)
We spent quite a long time that day playing “newsphoto of killing of MLK”. We took turns being the murdered man, being the people pointing. We ran out to the balcony and struck our poses again and again.
It’s amazing to me how fascinated we were with that balcony and how media saturated we really were.

Yes that is right. Remember Tino Martinez who played for the Yankees? Now there was a WHITE hispanic, but I never heard him described that way. If his name had not been Tino Martinez you’d never have thought he had a Spanish background in any way.
Well, there’s a great idea.
Scenario: Actors do a clever and realistic portrayal. Guest at the party is convinced the assault is real, pulls a gun and plugs the “assailant.”
Classic!
