A report from the Pentagon inspector general found that President Donald Trumps decision to rapidly pull troops out of Syria and divert attention from diplomacy in Iraq has inadvertently aided the Islamic States regrouping in Syria and Iraq.
The Department of Defenses quarterly report to Congress on the effectiveness of the US Operation Inherent Resolve mission said that ISIS continued its transition from a territory-holding force to an insurgency in Syria, and it intensified its insurgency in Iraq even though Trump said ISIS was defeated and the caliphate quashed, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Many officials and experts have repeatedly warned that a rapid US withdrawal from Syria would enable ISIS to regroup into an insurgency after their battlefield defeats by the US-led coalition.
The IGs report also explicitly said the troop drawdown in Syria, which Trump announced at the end of last year, contributed to instability in the region. The drawdown, which prompted the resignation of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, left the USs Syrian partners in the lurch, without the training or support they needed to confront a resurgent ISIS. In Iraq, the Iraqi security forces lack the necessary infrastructure to fight off ISIS for sustained periods. [ ]
The Trump administrations decision to focus its attention on Iran reduced its capacity to effectively counter ISIS in Iraq and Syria, according to Brett McGurk, the former special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS who served under Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump.

Funny how these government insiders always find a way to get their message out against President Trump.
How could any significant insurgency by ISIS restart with any significance? They were literally ground into the dirt.
Dang. Looks like the area needs another Chemo treatment. The cancer was only in remission.
The pentagon hasnt figured out how to beat goat herders in Afghanistan in a decades long war.
Maybe we need to take a close look at the military education system.
Back when ISIS was just getting organized and driving around in caravans of white Toyota pick-up trucks all over Iraq, I think that 0bama said they were no threat. ??
I expect evil is in their culture so even if we destroyed them they would come back. That is not a reason to keep troops over in those hell holes. Tighten American Security at our borders and curtail who we let in via plane or boat! If they want to kill each other in their own country, so be it. It is either that or go full Sherman on them. Scorched earth.
The Taliban and ISIS will win out in the end. They are willing to fight for generations. We aren’t. Reminds me of Viet Nam.
“The report specifically said President Donald Trump’s decision to rapidly draw down troops in Syria and pull diplomatic staff from Iraq increased instability and allowed the militants to regroup.”
That statement is the key indicator of where the writer is coming from.
The diplomatic staff would be the State Department unhappy about losing relevance in that region.
It is not diplomacy that gets things done in that area of the world; bombing the sh*t out of them does.
Pentagon REMFs need wars so they can fly over and spend a couple of days in the headquarters and get a ribbon. Gots ta keep that ticket punched.
Its not a Pentagon report...its a Deep State report.
Without War, no one gets a promotion.
If this were ‘true’ (I’m skeptical)...the first question...who funds them? If the Pentagon hasn’t done their homework on that...then I’d start to ask which ‘friend’ of the Pentagon is funneling money to ISIS?
I disagree - its not a matter of education, we KNOW how to beat them. As my father said upon returning from flying Phantoms out of Da Nang in 1970, They wouldnt let us win.
Colonel, USAF (ret)
Isis will always re-emerge, come back, what have you as long as Islam exists. Exactly like mold in a basement.
if true, hit them hard.
Whack the cancer. Nuke Mecca and Tehran.
The difference, though, is that this is not a jungle and technology has greatly improved. We really don’t have to send many men into harms way to take care of these coyotes and wolves. We have a ton of flavors of drone and we’re just getting started. And listening devices, etc.
It just needs to be managed properly.
If that were true, the Pentagon would be filled with privates and specialists.
I think that 0bama said they were no threat. ??
I blame Zero and hillary for ISIS
Another subject, total alinsky......they blame us and Trump for everything they do.
Listening to some Zero quotes the other day he was anti-sematic and always tried to rile up the masses based on race.
Keep Praying
I have not seen Freepers say this lately.
We said it a lot to each other in 2016.
Yep
