Biden again tries to distance himself from MBS: Says Crown Prince will be at his meeting in Saudi but avoids suggestion he will talk with him directly

President Joe Biden on Thursday tried to distance himself once again from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, saying he would only meet with him as part of a larger group when he's in Jeddah next month.

And, the president emphasized, the purpose of his trip was not to meet the Saudi royals - including aging King Salman - but to attend a meeting of the GCC plus 3 summit to talk oil production.

Biden pushed back when asked if he would hold Saudi Arabia accountable for human rights abuses while, at the same time, push them to release more crude oil to ease high gas prices.

'Well, first of all, that's not the purpose of the trip,' he said at his press conference at the end of the NATO summit.

'It's not about Saudi Arabia. It's in Saudi Arabia,' he noted. 'I guess I will see the king and the Crown Prince. But that's, that's not the meeting I'm going to. They'll be part of a much larger meeting.'

The White House has pushed back against talk Biden will have a sit down with the crown prince, known by his initials MBS, during his two days in Saudi Arabia.

The administration has repeatedly said the upcoming trip is a meeting with heads of Gulf nations.

But the kingdom said that MBS and Biden would be meeting unilaterally.

Biden has been under heavy pressure from human rights activists not to meet with MBS because of his role in the death of Jamal Khashoggi.

The Washington Post journalist was murdered in Turkey in 2018. The CIA has concluded with 'high confidence' that bin Salman ordered the assassination.

During the 2020 presidential campaign, Biden referred to MBS as a 'pariah' in the aftermath of Khashoggi's killing.

I am very confused about this.

I understand that some guy got whacked, and that our intelligence agencies believe that somehow this guy was involved, but I honestly do not care.

To Quote a Famous American person who has been accused of whacking lots of people ‘What Difference At This Point Does It Make?!’

The difference it could make might be huge.

I have dealt with Arab Sheikh, If you Diss them repeatedly and publicly you are not getting anything you want or need from them, possibly not even if it is their best interests.

Biden to Saudis: “Please pump more oil and keep the price really low, that would be a big help. Also, I am about to snub your King and Crown Prince publicly and make sure the press prints it with quotes from me about how I’m not interested in meeting with them. Thought you should know. Now get started on the cheap and plentiful oil please, thanks!”

Trump changed my mind about which foreign leaders our President should speak. There was a time when I would say we should never talk to Kim or Xi. That came out of a lack of respect and ability for prior Presidents. Now I think it is not so important as who a president talks to, but what he says. If I continued to hold my old view, presently there would be only one leader in North and South America that our President should communicate with. And it ain’t that socialist piece of schiff north of the border.

I don’t buy into the establishment thought process of giving or not giving recognition. A good President goes into talks with confidence and maintains his ground. It is about power.

Funny thing, the other day Hilary was complaining about how Putin treated her when she was Secretary of State. Apparently, Putin was being insulting, sexist and kept his legs spread as if to say, “look at my junk.” The video that went along with that showed exactly that. Face it, no one takes Democrats seriously on the world stage. Trump on the other hand was respected even though he wasn’t liked.

No one respects Biden. No one likes Biden. He really needs to meet with as many world leaders so everyone in America can have a point of comparison to a real President.

Seems like a rather dumbass move by Biden (as usual). He could insult the Saudis from Washington.

And Biden is such a big shot he’s not going to meet with the head of state he’s visiting?

Don’t be confused. Joe insulted the Saudi’s early on. “During a primary debate in early 2020, Biden pledged to make Saudi Arabia “the pariah that they are.” He’s been doing it ever since. As you said in your comment, if you denounce and disrespect them publicly, you’ll have no relationship whatsoever with them. Joe has reaped what he’s sown. I hope the Saudi’s snub him to infinity and beyond.

In my view, meetings with foreign leaders should only be about our national policies and should be about how we view the way they operate. There’s a whole lot going on that is not our business, and we lack the understanding of why they might do things.

Trump made great progress toward middle east peace, through Kushner and the Abraham Accords. Saudi was to be the next effort in Trump’s 2nd term. Biden is willing to throw that away. I’m all for less US involvement in the ME, and no more “endless wars”. But not only is KSA the largest oil reserve in the world, it is critical to long term peace in the ME. We don’t have to be best friends, but driving them away is stupidity. Putin must be laughing his ass of at Biden’s idiocy.

So he doesn’t want to talk to the de facto ruler of the country.....yet still badly wants a favor from the very guy he is showing such a lack of respect to.

Yeah.

Good luck with that.
