became narrower and their bust became smaller.

Some researcher must have misplaced a decimal point on those breast measurements.
Or confused the units (mixed up centimeters and inches).

Otherwise, how would they explain the silicon revolution?

Actually, I could believe the absolute average breast size may have fallen...
but not as much as the other two dimensions of the famed three-number measure of
the female figure.
Thusly, my guess would be that what has happened is that today's average female has much
closer to what a LOT of guys are looking for...an figure with a "cinch" at the waist,
an obviously feminine chest, and a shapely, but reasonably-sized "caboose".
