Vanity - Put together some info on this draft thing going around

This draft thing has been making the rounds. Somehow the Home School Legal Defense Association has been linked.

Here is a good article with the facts.

Did a little digging myself on a good Congressional search engine. And found that:

a: hr.163 and s.89 are sponsored by Rangel and Hollings respectively, both Democrats.

b: Nothing has happened on either bill since February of 2003. Effectively dead in committee.

Don't take my word for it, see for yourself. s.89, hr.163

here is one of the websites promoting this crap. Lets take a look at what they are saying.

Although Congress would have to approve new legislation to create a Skills Draft or reinstate the combat draft, Family Circle reported in its July 13 issue that Karl Rove had polled GOP members of Congress in September 2002 to see if they would support the President if he requests reinstatement. The Republicans said they would vote for the draft. They would likely support the new legislation needed to create the Skills Draft.

So, no draft without legislation, no legislation unless the president asks for it, and no evidence that he’s asked for it. But wait.

While Bush and the Republicans are of course keeping the return of the draft and the new skills draft as quiet as possible, many anti-draft organizations have recently begun warning of a “Coming New Draft. ”

Oh ok, so anti-draft organizations know that Bush is going to instate a draft, just take their word for it. But reading further on:

Despite Rumsfeld saying the draft is not needed, this is the same neo-con administration that has repeatedly lied to and misled the American people.

Rumsfeld lies! We know the truth! They have evidence! A top ultra super secret document found after hours of hard work using the FOIA reveals a document that shows, wait for it, that the Pentagon has contingency plans for a draft in worst-case scenarios. That’s pretty much it, that is the smoking gun. Well there is some stuff in there about gathering skills information so that if there is a draft, they get more specialized and targeted, Dry stuff really, but the kind of thing you would expect of an agency whose job is drafting people in worst-case scenarios. Go ahead and read the whole thing, it’s not that long.

This whole thing is built around some contingency plans by the Pentagon, and the denials of the white house that there are draft plans in the works.

By their own admission, there can be no draft without legislation and the fact that the only legislation has been sponsored solely by Democrats does not bother some people who are using this issue to try to influence gullible college kids into believing that Kerry (a Democrat) will save them from a draft. These are both Democratic Bills.

Sick image being posted on College campuses

I don’t mind negative campaigning at all, but the charges should be at least somewhat truthful don’t you think?

Standard response # 4F

Joseph Goebbels would be proud. We have here a case of the
"Reverse Big Lie"

Not only is the "secret Bush draft" a lie,
the truth is a secret Kerry-Edwards draft.

The Kerry camp coordinators have fired up a series of scare
ads on the draft. As is usual for "progressives", accusing
their opponents of what they themselves are doing.

Kerry has accused Bush of having a secret draft plan, based
on no evidence at all. Kerry himself has been trying to
cover up his own statements. What would a President
Kerry be likely to do?

Before getting to the details, it's important to note that
this issue is not primarily about a military draft. It's
about Universal National Service (UNS). Stealing two years
from every life, then 3, and heck, why stop there ...

And National Service is less about service than about
indoctrinating the slaves by controlling the agenda of
the approved forms of service.

But make no mistake about it, if Kerry is elected, they'll
also need a draft to meet military manpower requirements,
because voluntary enlistments and re-enlistments will drop
to near zero. The National Guard is already seeing signs
that people are waiting to see who will be the next
President.

Furthermore, it will be very dangerous to be in a Kerry
military. Apart from more Mogudishu disasters, expect
the troops to be exposed to random war crimes tribunals.

The Bush Administration has done zero to move toward a
draft and does not support it.

The only bills submitted are by Democrats.
http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:HR00163:
http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:SN00089:
One of them, HR 163 (aka SB 89), bears the title:
"Universal National Service Act of 2003"
it includes the provision:
"...or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the
national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."

... and for other purposes ...

Completely undefined and arbitrary purposes. Involuntary
servitude, i.e. slavery, doing whatever bidding the
ruling class prescribes. Fear the ruling class that
advocates mandatory national service.

Bush has said he'd veto HR 163.
Kerry has said exactly nothing about it.

Although Kerry and Edwards are on the campaign trail
promising to oppose a "draft", they in fact support
UNS, but are hiding that. And even if they were to
oppose UNS, you already know what a Kerry promise
or position is worth.

Where have they been on this issue?

Kerry has removed pages, formerly at:
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice and
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/100days/communityservice_high.html
A copy of the latter was saved from the memory hole here:
http://www.mcgath.com/kerryslavery.html

"As President, John Kerry will ensure that every
high school student in America does community
service as a requirement for graduation. . . ."

The current K+E National Service is more watered down:
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/national_service/
Apparently, the older position was too honest.

And Edwards? Go see:
http://www.senate.gov/~edwards/issues/educ/service.html

Under the Kerry plan, of course, we can expect
exemptions for the children of rich politicians.

The Selective Service System is already in place, and
could be reactivated in the event of some unforseen
emergency (Canada threatens to invade us :-). If Kerry
is defeated, the SSS, unneeded since Vietnam, is most
likely to remain right where it is today - dormant.

> This scare is getting to people on the college campus.
> It has to be responded to, not minimized and disregarded.

So share what I've written with them. Have them read
the legislation and check out the sponsors. Tell them
to do their own research on what Bush people have said,
and what Kerry & Co. have historically advocated. Tell
them to look at which faction is more likely to stick by
their historical positions.

Someone is lying. The only question is who.

Kerry is leading the naive into a trap. He's opened
a "hide out from the draft" building and invited the
kids to come in.

After it's too late, the sign will be pulled off to
reveal a new sign:
Universal National Service Processing Center

Been hammering same message for days. If Kerry is elected and the dems get in, they will re-instate the draft and have already tried to, but it took the good sense of a republican congress to prevent it.

I just had to answer this today in an email. After searching here and reading the actual bill sponsered by Rangel, Conyers and the other dems, I answered with this, I hope I got it right:

The only bills submitted are by Democrats. One of them, HR 163, bears the title:
"Universal National Service Act of 2003" it includes the provision:
"...or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."
(I wonder what other purposes?!)

This bill was introduced by Charley Rangel and John Conyers among others, all Democrats. You can read it here: http://www.theorator.com/bills108/hr163.html.

The Bush Administration does not support a draft. This is another example of a LIE told by a desperate Kerry.

From USA Today (which is no friend of George Bush):
"Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and other Pentagon officials have been asked numerous times whether they thought a draft would be necessary to maintain force levels in Iraq. They have said consistently that they think it is neither necessary nor desirable, since today's military is built on volunteer service and professionalism. "

This bill was introduced by Charley Rangel and John Conyers among others, both Democrats and both known to be extreme liberals. When Uday and Qusay Hussian were killed, Rangel lamented that our soldiers had "murdered sombody's children."

John Conyers (D-MI) introduced Resolution H. Res. 419, concerning “religiously intolerant remarks” amounts to censor General William “Jerry” Boykin while speaking about Islam in his own church. He did this to pander to his base which is mostly Muslim even though it is censorship of Free Speech and Freedom of Religion right in the man's own church.

Kerry has proposed sending out 40 thousand more troops, which may require even more enlistment. Would he keep it voluntary? Who knows?

Don't panic unless Kerry's elected.

Some people will believe anything, especially the brainless wonders at DU.

Anyone who would believe anything written by the Seattle Times or PI probably thinks SeeBS is Gospel.

Wa State is a bastion of liberal liars and traitors.
