Perspective and Propaganda

I read an excellent column today at the "Accuracy in Media" website (http://www.aim.org/guest_column_print/1968_0_6_0/), it was entitled One Thousand Dead U.S. Soldiers in Iraq: A Much Needed U.S. Perspective.

It compared the deaths of our troops in Iraq with the deaths of victims in America's major cities, as well as historical facts concerning casualties: Pearl Harbor, WTC, and D-Day. It was not trying to whitewash it, or demean the sacrifice, it was trying to put it into a proper perspective.

America's perspective has been blurred by the media. The media wants Iraq to be Vietnam, a war that was lost in the media, not on the battlefield; we were defeated by propaganda perpetrated by our own news media, and they are trying to do it again. They portray the islamofascist killers as "insurrectionists" and "rebels". They give the words of these fanatics as much credence as the words of our President. They videotape and photograph them in a sympathetic light, while condemning our troops as a whole for the actions of a few idiots.

We are at war. A war that was foisted on us, not by another nation, but by a shadowy collection of psychotic cowards, and religious fanatics, simply because we will not agree to follow their religion. That is all they want, complete control over our lives and beliefs and they will stop. Oh, they want to kill all of the Jewish people, too, and anyone else who is not a believer.

What a relief, huh? That's it? where do I sign up? NOT!

It is a war without quarter and must be fought that way: they kill children without remorse, they teach their children that being a suicide bomber is the best thing in the world!

If it's so good, why do the leaders fight so hard to stay alive? Why do they get upset when their leaders are sent to "paradise"?

Their leaders know that dying is bad. The strongest human instinct is to flee from danger, not kill yourself. In a civilized society suicide is the act of someone who is mentally unbalanced, or the act of a hero trying to save the lives of others.

We are at war with EVIL, pure and simple, and there are no halfway measures to stop it.
