What I Wanted to Hear From George Bush

What I wanted to hear from Bush:

On Kerry's character:

"My concern with Kerry's character is that you can't trust the words you hear him speak. He says he's strong on defense, yet his Senate record shows otherwise. Tonight he praised Ronald Reagan but in 1986 he campaigned to cancel almost every defense program championed by President Reagan, the programs which won the cold war, the programs that still defend America today. America would be less secure and far weaker on defense today if John Kerry had his way in 1986 against President Reagan."

On the military deaths in Iraq:

"While each and every life is precious, I thank God that we have brave soldiers who understand the noble sacrifice of giving one's life for your country. We deeply appreciate each and every one of our fallen soldiers. But we have witnessed far, far fewer casualties in this war than during any other war in history.

And we've accomplished much good with so little loss of life. We've liberated Afghanistan and Iraq and are on our way to driving the Taliban and al Qaeda out of business.

Taking this action was necessary and it was necessary to do it now. While we mourn those we've lost, it is better to lose a thousand lives now than a million lives later because we were hesitant to take the action now, when this threat could be contained."

On why we went to war with Iraq:

"John Kerry seems to think that the only players in international terrorism are Afghanistan and al Qaeda. How can he expect to protect this country from terrorism if he can't even see the threats posed by others who support the terror infrastructure?

Saddam Hussein paid rewards of $25,000 to the families of suicide bombers who blew up children in pizza parlors in Israel. Do we not see that as a threat? Do we wonder why we didn't do anything about Saddam when those same suicide bombers, paid by Saddam, decide to bomb children in Atlanta or Denver?

Saddam Hussein gave safe harbor to terror masterminds Abu Abbas, who hijacked the Achille Lauro and murdered a disabled American. Saddam Hussein gave refuge to Abu Nidal. It's been suggested that Abu Nidal was being pressed to train al Qaeda fighters in Iraq and that Saddam Hussein was pressuring Nidal to prepare attacks on America.

John Kerry wants to pretend that our efforts to eliminate global terrorism are misdirected. They are not. Global terrorism doesn't begin and end with al Qaeda. It's a problem that has to be attacked on all fronts, including those who fund and harbor terrorists and enable them to carry out their suicidal attacks."

I was very disappointed with Bush's performance last night. He's capable of a much more convincing and incisive debate.

Anyone with high level connection to the Bush administration, feel free to pass along these talking points. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Good post. I think Bush should have spent a few hours with Zell Miller before the debate.

I wrote something similar to you titled "What Bush should have said"

We touch on many of the same points. I think many of us are feeling frustrated, Bush should have burried Kerry last night.

Yeah, I was hoping I would wake up less disappointed than when I went to bed. Not happening.

Anyway, what I think we have to do now is start pointing out the Kerry lies. Maybe Cheney will echo this when he debates Edwards next week.

Kerry's slurs and charges were full of lies and empty of specific plans. Gen. Shenseki was not fired as Kerry said,,,the subway system was not shut down during the convention and Kerry HAS called W a liar on several occasions during the campaign,,,just to name a few off the top of my head.

Kerry is truly scary.

That's good. I especially like the quote from Reagan.

To keep in perspective how relatively few the casualties in Iraq have been, Winston Churchill, when he was Lord Admiral of the British Navy in WWI, was known to have commented that he was prepared to lose 200 to 300 men in one small day long battle in the Dardanelle straights leading to Constantinople.

I'm not sure how health care relates to foreign policy, the subject of last night's debate. Maybe this woman wasn't aware of that. More likely she didn't care. Foreign policy doesn't interest her and she only wanted to hear about a subject that concerned her.
