Here's one that nearly slipped under the radar. Cartoonist Aaron McGruder's The Boondocks, who's pilot was rejected by Fox for this fall, has been picked up by Cartoon Network.
The failed FOX pilot has found new life as the cable channel has committed to 15 half-hour episodes of the animated comedy, which is based on the Aaron McGruder comic strip of the same name. The network hopes to begin production in time for "Boondocks" to premiere in the fall of 2005 as part of its successful "Adult Swim" lineup. McGruder will executive produce the project, which comes from Sony Pictures Television, alongside Reggie Hudlin. "Boondocks" tracks the adventures of two boys, Riley and Huey, who experience a culture clash when they move from inner-city Chicago to the suburbs to live with their grandfather.Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block runs in overnight hours, and consists of domestic and international animated programs that are more geared toward adults than toward children, including off-network series' like "Family Guy" and "Futurama," original programs like "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law," and imported anime including "Case Closed" and "Cowboy Bebop."
Double-barrelled Mega-PING! to both lists! If you want on, FReepmail me!
I tried watching SeaLab 2021 last night.
Couldn't do it.
While I find the politics behind boondocks repulsive its fairly amusing for a comic strip. (its actually good as opposed to doonsbury)
Aqua team hunger force is the best show they have
McGruders commentary is always the weakest point of Mahers show. And thats saying something. I have no impressions of his comic strips because I have no intention of ever viewing it. But, he comes across as an ignoramus. I cannot stand him.
The Venture Brothers is funny.
Go team Venture!
The Venture Bros. is, by far, the best show on CN.
I like Boondocks. Sure, he skewers Bush. But he skewers everyone and saves his full satirical skewer for blacks who buy into the "can't act white" concept.
I'll have to check with my teenager on this one. She has a better fix than me on these cartoons. I am still watching my Beany & Cecil dvd.....over and over again.
I saw it for the first time about 3 weeks ago, frickin crack-up and a half.
Cartoon characters performing oral sex, talking about condoms etc. I wasn't aware this was even on. Yes it's late at night but it is a cartoon channel for God's sake. I've unprogrammed it out of my clicker, have e-mailed Cartoon Network (not that it will help) and telling all of my friends about it who are equally outraged.
The time is soon coming when we will have to kill our cable. I enjoy Fox News and the home channels but don't want to take a chance that my kids will stumble on this trash.
MKM
Aaron McGruder's a leftist homo! He can kiss my a....! Nah nah nah nah nah nah!!!!
The real question should be: when is Home Movies coming back?!?! That was the best show they had
The only cartoon I have seen in the adult swim time slot is Inuyahu....not sure of spelling. Nobody in our house is allowed to watch it. It was pretty gory and I didn't care much for the metaphysical aspects .....I have the same problem with yugioh, pokemon etc. Here in the west the adult swim shows come on very early...9pm I think.
Cable or not, TV's only safe in the "off" position.
I'll probably just stick with "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "The Brak Show."
Sealab is like blue cheese. You either love it, or don't see how anyone else can even be in the same room with it.
Let's say it's an acquired lack of taste.
What is your Mega-Ping?
I think McGruder has talent, but horrible politics. I do find it amusing that the MSM had no problem with McGruder calling Rice a murderer, but so many media outlets pulled the Boondocks cartoons last week that poked fun of black culture.
I saved a boodocks strip once, just to post for the FR klaxons who around like their head is on fire and call for boycotts etc every time the strip gets a little crazy.
he trashes black culture/icons just as harshly as repubs, but just not as often.
