jaromil writes "Today at about 18:00 CET FBI raided the indymedia servers hosted by Rackspace both in US and England. At present, the italian indymedia and numerous other local IMC websites are obscured, while the reasons why the hard drives were taken are still unknown."
Look for several indymedia "contributors" to suddenly vanish.
IIRC, Isn't Indymedia linked to George Soros?
Sweet.
Follow the money......right to DNC Headquarters..
Root out the nest.
Could someone kindly tell me in a sentence or two what indymedia is all about? I really have never visited their website, but have heard the name mentioned here on a number of times. Thanks in advance!
Thursday morning, US authorities issued a federal order to Rackspace ordering them to hand over Indymedia web servers to the requesting agency. Rackspace, which provides hosting services for more that 20 Indymedia sites at its London facility, complied and turned over the requested servers, effectively removing those sites from the internet.Since the subpoena was issued to Rackspace and not to Indymedia, the reasons for this action are still unknown to Indymedia. Talking to Indymedia volunteers, Rackspace stated that "they cannot provide Indymedia with any information regarding the order." ISPs have received gag orders in similar situations which prevent them from updating the concerned parties on what is happening.
It is unclear to Indymedia how and why a server that is outside the US jurisdiction can be seized by US authorities.
At the same time an additional server was taken down at Rackspace which provided streaming radio to several radio stations, BLAG (linux distro), and a handful of miscellanous things.
The last few months have seen numerous attacks on independent media by the US Federal Government. In August the Secret Service used a subpoena in an attempt to disrupt the NYC IMC before the RNC by trying to get IP logs from an ISP in the US and the Netherlands. Last month the FCC shut down community radio stations around the US. Two weeks ago the FBI requested that Indymedia takes down a post on the Nantes IMC that had a photo of some undercover Swiss police and IMC volunteers in Seattle were visited by the FBI on the same issue. On the other hand, Indymedia and other independent media organisations were successfull with their victories for example against Diebold and the Patroit Act. Today however, the US authorities shut down IMCs around the world.
The list of affected local media collectives includes Ambazonia, Uruguay, Andorra, Poland, Western Massachusetts, Nice, Nantes, Lilles, Marseille (all France), Euskal Herria (Basque Country), Liege, East and West Vlaanderen, Antwerpen (all Belgium), Belgrade, Portugal, Prague, Galiza, Italy, Brazil, UK, part of the Germany site, and the global Indymedia Radio site.
Ping to something stinky and Indymedia.
I'm clueless as well. What is this and what might be the end result(s)?
My imagination is a little wild at times, but it just came up with the notion that the information that they find on the Hard Drives will somehow match data found on the hard drives of the Washington State RNC HQ computers that were stolen the other day. Pure speculation, but as good as any other theory at this point in time.
Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch of sleezebags.
Paybacks for their "American Myrmadon" knockoff of the Time Mag. cover.
This is good news!
They have their fingers in everything.

Well let me field that one indymedia! It is easy if one of your posters made commentary or an article that purports threats against the president or other government personal or persons within the united states, and that comment or article is held outside the US, but the person that posted it was in the US. The government I am sure has treaties or agreements with Britian to share the information and possible even seize it if nessecary. I mean come one by this logic 2/3's of the crime occured in the US. (Just speculating.)
I found a Worldnet Daily article about Indymedia having to pull the now-infamous cartoon about Pat Tillman where WND stated:
The nonprofit Tides Foundation, heavily financed by Teresa Heinz Kerry, contributed $5,000 to the Washington, D.C. branch of the Independent Media Center, according to its 2001/2002 annual report [pdf].

I'm sure they used a RAID array (c8
I'm glad to see the Feds finally moving on some of this crap. Today, Rep. Fenney from Oveido, Fl...along with 19 other Representatives, also submitted requests for Ashcroft to issue indictments against the AFL-CIO attacks on Republicans in Orlando. Tonight, Brit finally mentioned the attacks around the country..although, only through the Grapevine segment. It's past time for the GOP to start fighting back against these "terrorist" tactics.
Those are the aholes who took the Time magazine man of the year cover and photo shopped swatsikas (and else) on to the uniforms of our heros last winter.
More:
Maybe you say these are just a bunch of nobodies who created a little website. That may be true. But these nobodies at the Independent Media Center get support directly and indirectly from Teresa Heinz Kerry's nonprofit Tides Center. She could be the next first lady of the United States.
The Tides Center, a spinoff of the Tides Foundation, also funds an ostensibly independent group of relatives of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, "Peaceful Tomorrows," which recently expressed outrage over campaign ads by President Bush.
The group also has given grants totaling $489,000 to the Iraq Peace Fund, which used the money to fund anti-war marches and groups such as MoveOn.org, which aims to defeat Bush in November.
The center reportedly gave $200,000 to The Ruckus Society, which trains anti-globalist activists and was responsible for destroying property in the World Trade Organization riots in Seattle in 1999.

I wonder of Teraaayza funding Tides, who funds moveon.org is the same as moveon.org creating ads to oust John Kerry's opponent...in a court of law...
"I'm sure they used a RAID array"
If they're not careful, they might be dressed in striped-volumes ;)
