Well, I made good on a personal commitment today and attended my first local Republican Party meeting this morning. Two hours out of one Saturday a month isn't too much to ask, neither is the annual dues of $15, so I'll probably return and may become a member.
There was good give and take participation from the assembled faithful, with many new guests like myself attending for the first time post election. We shared the same sentiments about the national GOP victories, and recommitted ourselves to regain the Colorado Legislature.
Our speaker was former Congressman Bob Shaffer. I really appreciated his delineation of political issues into Magnet, Shield and Wedge categories. I have to agree with him, that Education Vouchers are a campaign issue, which has the potential of broadening the conservative base by reaching out to minority and new immigrant communities through local party activism.
Some observations:
In a room with about 50 people, there was easy access to converse with local representatives, both elective and party leadership, and express concerns and philosophies.
Be prepared to be recruited: I felt like red meat in front of lions and was immediately approached to consider running for State Legislature (we will see).
Anyone can do this, I encourage all Freepers to contact your County GOP office and find out when and where they meet and become active.
You seem genuine based on your home page and I would guess that you are probably a "convert", like many people here.
