Oh yes it does. One of the problems with Islam is there is no central authority to correctly interpret and communicate doctrine. Any nutso Imam can spew his own interpretation to the masses.

The ones that are calling for a return of a Caliph are the ones that are nuts! Its OBL, Al Qaeda and their sympathizers. The one thing we have going for us is the ummah is divided and we can understand and exploit these divisions to OUR advantage.

There is room for interpretation only and only if the subject at hand is not covered by the quran or hadith - then it is to the ulama for a fatwa.
