Eason and Dean (Blogger Power)

I was listening to MPR's program Midmorning today. I'm not sure if this is a local show or a national one. I linked the sound file above if you are interested.

It was a really interesting show. The host Kerri Miller interviewed a Poli Sci Professor from Carlton College and Michael Tomasky of the American Prospect. They discussed what the election of Howard Dean, means to the future of the Democratic Party.

It was a really interesting show. The host Kerri Miller interviewed a Poli Sci Professor from Carlton College and Michael Tomasky of the American Prospect. They discussed what the election of Howard Dean, means to the future of the Democratic Party.

One of the first points made was the role of bloggers in the election of Dean. I believe that it was Tomasky who stated that the lefty blogs campaigned and secured Dean's election. Blogs have really made an impact in the last few days. Eason Jordan resignation from CNN and the election of Howard Dean were both driven and really moved by the new media. Web coalitions are really moving events in the real world.

The callers and Tomasky agreed that the current course of the Democratic Party is aimless. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as spokespersons seems to be deeply unsatisfactory to the party faithful. Dean seems to fulfill a deep-seated need to bear their soul to the American public. They seem to feel stifled and constrained by the necessity of compromise and a lack of purity in the party’s rhetoric.

There seems to be a sense that if they are going to lose elections they may as well speak their minds. If they are going to be rejected by the voters they want to be rejected for who they truly are. Harry Reid, Bill Clinton and especially John Kerry were deeply unsatisfying candidates to the left. Howard Dean seems to scratch that itch.

The question is weather this will be enough to satisfy the left or weather they will pull further leftward.

I looked at my post and figured I might want to explain why I was listening to public radio. I split my day between talk radio and public radio.(and sometimes I can't get any AM stations)

No need to explain. There must have been a good reason and that good reason is whatever suits you. :)
