DUer: Why SHOULDN'T siblings be allowed to "marry" or enter civil unions?

I stand corrected, ironically, this came up in a conversation I was having last night.

Unfortunatley, and this may depress you, several friends of mine who are also teachers actually teach that they were 1st cousins to their students, somone else who was with us, and is a huge FDR buff actually went through the whole lineage to explain how they weren't.

Oh dear.......teachers are teaching that they were "first cousins"? :-(

Here's a wee hint.........I'm NOT perfect (not by a long shot!),but when I post historical facts,99.8% of the time,they are correct. I didn't remember whether they were 4th. or 5th. cousins and said so,but I was in the right ballpark.

Saying that you were wrong is a rarity on FR,though I always do it,on the rare occasion I'm wrong. So you are to be complimented and given not only kudos,but also a very rare pardon from me. Were it with pride!

A question like this implies to me complete shallowness of the "liberal" mindset. They just don't get it.

Let me share a little story, I will try to keep it brief

My sister recently left her abusive husband after 5 years, with 4 children. This was her second marriage and resulted in her forth child being born, she had 3 previously from her first marriage.

Obviously this took a great deal of courage on her part, but the reality of the situation is that she cannot make it on her own with the 4 kids. She has a minor degree from community college and little work experience, she was a mother and wife before all else, and only recently in the last 2 years went to work at a not exactly menial job, but a lower waged job as a data entry clerk.
I have since that time, helped her obtain an apartment, cosigning a lease, and have supported her and her children with various amounts of money when needed, In classic catch 22 she was told that she "makes too much money" for any sort of temporary assistance from the state of FL, this is a woman trying to better her life and the lives of her children on just over 9.00 dollars an hour....

That leaves her with barely enough to put food on the table and clothes on the kids backs, sadly in reality it doesn't even leave her that much, and I have to help her periodically with rent, bills and keeping food on the table. She does get child support form her first husband which when he pays it helps.

To hear this DUer or to borrow a phrase from PJ Comix, "Dummie" tell it I, since I am providing support of her and her children, should be allowed to enter a "civil union" with her and reap the benefits of tax cuts, social programs etc.

What the poor misguided and yes SHALLOW soul is missing is this; I give because I have it to give, I do it out of kindness and a desire to see a family member triumph against a uphill struggle for dignity and self worth. I do it out of LOVE for my sister and her children. Not to benefit from the government, not to receive a tax cut, not to reap some fiscal reward.

I wont even get into the moral revuslion I feel over such a disgusting thought process as this "DUmmie" spews forth, but I will submit this thought;

If "Dummies" knew what true compassion means, if they could grasp the concept of "compassion", if they could simply think in terms other then their own self absorbed vanity and "if it feels good do it" mentality..they might very well come much closer to the "Utopia" they all scream endlessly about wanting.
