Operation Rescue Vows to Risk Arrest to Feed Terri Schiavo

Newman: "We will not stand idly by while an innocent woman is starved." Pinellas Park, FL - Mar 18, 2005 Operation Rescue vows to risk arrest to offer food and water to Terri Schiavo, who began her court- ordered starvation this afternoon.

Operation Rescue and a number of other individuals from faith-based organizations will peacefully attempt to offer Terri bread and water.

Where: The Woodside Hospice, where Terri Schindler Schiavo lives, located at 6774 102nd Avenue N. (near 66th Street N and 102nd Avenue N) in Pinellas Park, Florida When: Saturday, March 19, at 11 AM Who: Operation Rescue and a number of other faith-based groups

""We will not stand idly by while an innocent woman is starved," said OR President Troy Newman. "Operation Rescue vows to peacefully intervene to offer Terri Schiavo bread and water. It is our duty as Christians to rescue those unjustly sentenced to death. That is a higher law from a Higher Judge than Judge Greer, and if that means we must spend time in jail, then it is the least we can do for this helpless young lady." - Troy Newman, President, Operation Rescue

It's not worth it people. Just keep screaming at those in authority and make them take the risks.

Indeed: http://www.newpantagruel.com/issues/2.1/editorial_statement_on_terri_s.php :

Editorial Statement on Terri Schindler-Schiavo
by The Editors of The New Pantagruel

Beginning March 18, 2005, Terri Schindler-Schiavo will be starved to death by order of the State of Florida. The gross injustices of the judicial decisions and the gross inequities of the actions of her husband and guardian, Michael Schiavo, leading up to this point have been well documented and are beyond dispute.

It now appears that all legal recourse to save Terri’s life has failed. As Terri’s family and millions of people know, the State is wrong. There is a higher law. If last ditch efforts in the Florida Legislature and the United States Congress also fail, and the administration of Governor Jeb Bush fails in its duty to uphold the higher law, those closest to Terri—her family, friends, and members of their communities of care—are morally free to contemplate and take extra-legal action as they deem it necessary to save Terri’s life, up to and including forcible resistance to the State’s coercive and unjust implementation of Terri’s death by starvation. The Christian community and all people of good conscience, rather than accepting the State’s actions with the small consolation that “everything that could be done was done,” should acknowledge the true horizon of morally acceptable responses, and should actively encourage and support all such responses when taken by those with immediate responsibility for Terri’s care and wellbeing.

Well on second thought it might not be that bad of a thing to try, as long as it doesn't get violent.

Give them the Rodney King beat-down if they do.

I can think of nothing MORE worth civil disobedience than this issue. I wish I was closer to stand in the gap.

NO better than terrorists. When you resort to vigilantism, you've lost.

BIG TIME.

"It is our duty as Christians to rescue those unjustly sentenced to death."

Like the "Christians" who bombed that abortion clinic way back when?

I hope you actually read the article because you're way off base. I made the same conclusion too when I made my first post.

FINALLY!!!

Its a good thing that we didn't have email in the 60's otherwise Rosa Parks would still be sitting in the back of the bus on her wireless feveriously sending out emails.

Yeah. This is just like blowing up buses and hijacking airplanes. Whatever.

Uh, no. I think they said they would be non-violent. What's your problem?

"Operation Rescue and a number of other individuals from faith-based organizations will peacefully attempt to offer Terri bread and water."

Extremely bad move. The young woman has no swallow reflex. Any attempt to feed her orally could and probably would result in aspirational pneumonia.

If she's able to swallow a bolus of food and her saliva, that is, if she were allowed to by her husband, she could get enough food to maintain life.

Ease up on the J&B. I don't see how they would be hurting anybody.

Exactly, Terri won't recover from aspiration pneumonia. Believe me, I was case manager to individuals with MR/DD who had the same difficulty. You cannot just go feed someone who has not eaten by mouth in years.

Bolus feedings are not the same texture as bread and water. Not a good idea.

Vigilantism?

Lynching Michael Schiavo would be vigilantism.

But offering his wife food and water?

How about a small teaspoon with the texture of mashed potatoes?
