Air America station converts to religion

The former management of Air America's Youngstown/Warren, OH affiliate, WANR/1570 Warren, OH, has officially wrestled back control of the station from the LMA group operating it as an AAR affiliate.

The station changed format shortly after AAR's "Morning Sedition" today, and is now playing religious music and announcements. The station once ran a religious/Christian music format under the former manager who's leading the current group of investors.

The same company owns oldies WEXC/107.1 in nearby Greenville, PA, and a Christian-oriented music format is expected to be installed there within days.

Not exactly a killer signal, but kinda brings a smile to my face: From Al Franken to religion.

Yes a nice irony. More profit in Christianity than secular humanism.

The following is from the DUmmie board:

WARREN - Incidents Wednesday and Thursday turned WANR-AM into an off-the-Air America affiliate.

The downtown radio station was unable to broadcast its regular programming for several hours both days.
Station manager Tim Continenza said a person known to management and one or more accomplices entered the studio on Courthouse Square after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

"We had a board operator (on duty) who, with permission, locked the building and left to run an errand," Continenza said. "When he returned, they were in control of the radio station...They posted signs that Beacon Broadcasting was under new management. They changed the locks and changed the programming."

The station switched its format earlier this month to programming primarily from Air America, a liberal/progressive syndicated talk radio network currently heard in 53 markets nationwide and on satellite and Internet radio.

That's what caught my eye too. Err America gets cut, out of total audience indifference and it's attributed to panic and fear.

LOLOL

Scare America didn't last long in Youngstown, OH; that station only began airing them on April 4. Using the search feature of radio-info.com I found the following statement:

""Mr. William Henry speaking on behalf of Beacon Broadcasting Inc. the owners of WANR 1570 AM Radio Station is pleased to announce two major changes in the Station's operation.

(snip)

"Second in keeping with the personnel changes WANR will begin an affiliation with Air America the fastest growing Radio Talk Net Work in the Country.

"New programing will begin Monday April 4,2005 and a full line up will be announced shortly. This new programing will include Jerry Springer and Randi Rhodes along with local talk show host Don Hanni."

(And gone as of yesterday, 5/19)

...and in a related story a mysterious rash of spontaneous combustion and exploding heads took place today. Colleges and union halls seemed to be the focus of the carnage. Police are still investigating,

"Youngstown, OH"

Wasn't that James Trafficant's territory? For some reason I just can't see Err America making much progress in that area although it's dem country.

Not surprised really. That area is hardly a hotbed for barking moonbat theology. I grew up near Youngstown (15 miles east, in PA). Foaming at the mouth, American hating lefties are not real popular.

Hee hee. I can imagine Youngstown liberals tuning in for Rhandi Rhodes and hearing "Oh What a Friend We Have in Jesus" instead.
