The former "First Son" has done radio (most recently on KIRO in Seattle, where he lives) and lots of TV - for CNN, MSNBC, ABC News "20/20" and even Animal Planet. Now Air America Senior VP/Programming Bill Hess brings Reagan on board to host the 8-9pm weeknight hour, following Rachel Maddow (6-8pm). Reagan says "there are too few progressive voices in the media, and Air America plays an important and vital role." He starts Monday night, September 8.

In her black-rimmed glasses, black T-shirt, jeans and orange sneakers, green iPod wires dangling from her ears, Rachel Maddow cuts an unassuming figure at odds with her growing celebrity. "I know I don't look like everybody else on television," MSNBC's newest host says at a Mexican restaurant here. "I'm not that pretty. Women on television are over-the-top, beauty-pageant gorgeous. That's not the grounds on which I am competing. There's a basic threshold you have to cross: not looking like you're insulting. You ought to wear makeup, comb your hair." And if she tried for a makeover, she says, "I would...

Excerpt- ~ snip ~ The liberal commentator and Air America host, who has become a breakout star for the cable channel during this campaign, is taking over the 9 p.m. slot following Keith Olbermann, who she often subs for on "Countdown." Olbermann broke the news in what he called a "fully authorized leak" this afternoon on the left-wing Web site Daily Kos. Dan Abrams, the former MSNBC general manager who had been hosting "Verdict" at that hour, will continue as NBC's chief legal correspondent and will be a daytime anchor for MSNBC. ~ snip ~

Air America Radio has been a financial and ratings disaster since its inception in 2004. It enjoyed what arguably was the most free (fawning) publicity any business venture ever got, but almost went bankrupt after racking up $37 million in losses in 31 months. Since its purchase by Green Family Media in 2007, it hasn't done much better. Of course, the idea that a loopy-left network would thrive in a medium dominated, by popular demand, by conservatives was, well, loopy. AAR airs in only 47 markets (since its inception, it has lost 40 affiliates), and even in cities where it...

The DUmmies are going to have to guzzle down at least 14 Bloody Marys to kill the pain caused by the loss of Randi Rhodes. Yes, Randi has split from Air America. Ostensibly it was because of her suspension due to her "whore" comments about Hillary and Nancy Pelosi. However, it was pretty inevitable that Air America was going to DUmp Randi in the near future in large part because of her lousy ratings. So will this mean that we won't hear Randi on the air anymore? For the most part---yes. She has ended up at NOVA M RADIO...

Radio talker Randi Rhodes, who last week was suspended from Air America for obscene language at a public appearance, has switched to Nova M Radio, a competing syndicator. Clear Channel Denver announced Thursday that Rhodes will be reinstated in her afternoon timeslot (1-4 p.m.) on KKZN 760 AM, under a new contract with syndicator Nova M Radio, effective Monday. Nova M Radio, another progressive radio outfit, was founded by some of the originators of Air America. Celebrity voices will fill in for Rhodes until a replacement is named. According to Kris Olinger, who manages Denver's Air America affiliate, Rosie O'Donnell,...

Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station. Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company. We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America. We will soon announce exciting new talent and programming that will accelerate Air America’s growth in the future.

This is the biggest Randi Rhodes story since she was MUGGED on a New York street by 14 Bloody Marys last October. It seems our gentle Randi has been indefinitely suspended by Air America for calling Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro whores. As a result DUmmieland is in an uproar as you can see in this THREAD "Dangerous Randi Rhodes has been silenced." Oddly enough, your humble correspondent does not believe that Randi should be fired. You see, I feel I have a proprietary interest in Randi's career because I was the one who got Randi hired by Air...

Randi Rhodes, an afternoon host for the progressive Air America radio network, was suspended Thursday after repeatedly insulting Hillary Rodham Clinton at an event last month. Ms. Rhodes used vulgar language that likened Ms. Clinton to a prostitute at an event sponsored by KKGN, the Air America affiliate in the San Francisco area, on March 22. A video of Ms. Rhodes’ remarks was published to the video-sharing Web site YouTube on Tuesday, prompting condemnations by some bloggers.

MARCH 5--The San Francisco radio host facing child pornography charges lied to federal officials about his whereabouts after investigators recently received an alert that he had violated his "electronic monitoring schedule." Bernard Ward's bail violations are mentioned in a February 28 "status memorandum" sent by a pretrial services officer to Judge Maria Elena James (the memo provided James with an account of Ward's first months under electronic monitoring). The document, a copy of which you'll find below, does not describe where Ward, 56, went on December 21, when officials discovered his bail violation. During a subsequent court hearing, Ward admitted...

February 21, 2008: Vermont businessman and former state government official Charlie Kireker is becoming Chair of the board of Air America Radio as his newly formed Pendulum Media agrees to purchase a controlling interest in the liberal talk network from Green Family Media. Kireker takes over from Stephen Green, who will remain on the Air America board. Green Family Media completed its purchase of Air America from Piquant LLC in March 2007, six months after the network filed for bankruptcy under previous owner Piquant LLC. Air America President Mark Green and COO Scott Elberg will remain in place under the...

Billionaires for Big Government By Matthew Vadum and James Dellinger Human Events | Wednesday, January 16, 2008 The Democracy Alliance (DA) is maturing. After several years of internal strife, management squabbles, a few political purges and frustrating electoral setbacks, the group whose mission is to tilt American politics leftward has found its footing. The DA is becoming what leftist blogger Markos Moulitsas of DailyKos fame called for in 2005: “A vast, Vast Left Wing Conspiracy to rival” the conservative movement. It relies less on traditional Democratic Party “machine” politics, which typically draws upon fat cats, institutions (the party...

Air America radio host Randi Rhodes unleashed a torrent of what's being called "liberal racism" and accused Oprah Winfrey of "acting" when she stumped for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. On her show last week, Rhodes discussed Oprah's appearances on Obama's behalf, and told listeners: "She was blacker than Obama yesterday . . . Let me tell you something. Everyone who watches Oprah are the whitest people in the world . . . Even the black men who watch Oprah are white women while they watch Oprah . . . "She's like so unbelievably white . . . Why is...

Check out this video for some great laughs. Leftwing Air America radio host, Cenk Uygur, goes completely berserk while slamming Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi for "surrendering" to Republicans. The level of frustration on the part of Uygur is something to behold. He even declares that he would never trust Reid or Pelosi to be president since they would immediately surrender to our enemies. I guess all that leftwing jubilation when the Democrats won the House and Senate last year has worn off fast. Anyway, it is FUn to watch the complete demoralization of the Left due to their...

Franken announced in February his candidacy as a Democratic contender for the U.S. senate seat now held by first-term Republican Sen. Norm Coleman, who many see as one of the most vulnerable national incumbents, The New York Times reports. Franken is in a competitive race for Coleman's seat with Mike Ciresi, a lawyer who has run for the job previously. Franken lobbies potential voters to support his claim the former comedian is a serious contender, arguing his political commentary as of late offers credibility. Franken and Ciresi are both impressive fundraisers, raising $1.89 million and $1.7 million, respectively, the Times...

At long last, the often-rumored, often-discussed, often-delayed new sports station in San Diego is ready to go on the air. Barring anything unforeseen, the plan is for XTRA Sports 1360 to debut at 3 p.m. Monday with none other than Lee Hamilton welcoming “you the fan” to KLSD-AM, which has been carrying a progressive-talk format. “I'm fired up,” Hamilton said yesterday afternoon, less than 100 hours from his return to afternoon drive time in San Diego after an absence of nearly five years. “It should have never, ever happened and now we're back.

Now that Rosie O'Donnell is out of the running as host of a prime time MSNBC show, speculation has started anew about who will be named to host the program. Among the more amusing of these speculations come from Cenk Uygur, host of an Air American morning show. Writing in the Huffington Post on November 7, Uygur scans the field of candidates for the MSNBC slot: I would love to say that the right person for the job is one of the progressives I know either at Air America or in the liberal blogosphere. And all of these people are...

What we ate, and who we wanted to punchBy Christopher Cook Once a year, my wife and I go to the Fair. For three years running, it was the Los Angeles County Fair. This year---since we recently absented ourselves from California in favor of Arizona---it was the Arizona State Fair. Yesterday was our fourth wedding anniversary, and since we have a toddler and don't yet have a babysitter, we decided that the most celebration we were going to get for our anniversary was to take the boy and attend the fair. Our son is at a difficult age for such...

Fresh off her recent assault in which many suspect the culprit to have been 14 Bloody Marys, Air America radio talk host Randi Rhodes has now wandered into Moonbat conspiracy territory with her suggestion that Blackwater was the the cause of the current wildfires in California. Here is a partial transcript (audio available here) of what Randi said on the air on Wednesday: I started just doing Google searches to try and figure out. You know, arson, arson, it was like crazy trying to figure out why is that being downplayed? Why is that, you know, just a small part...

In a bigtime case of the pot calling the kettle black, liberal talk radio host Ed Schultz is attacking the credibility of Air America radio host Randi Rhodes concerning her highly dubious story about her non-mugging last Sunday outside an Irish bar in New York. Brian Maloney of the Radio Equalizer has been on top of this Randi Rhodes "mugging" story from the beginning. Maloney yesterday highlighted the credibility problems of Rhodes' lame explanation on the air Thursday of her non-mugging: Sadly, the explanation of events given during a seven-minute opening segment yesterday simply doesn't hold water, especially her reason for initially...

A few days after 9-11, President Bush, in an impromptu moment on the White House lawn, referred to the war on terrorism as a crusade. What does that have to do with the vile claim Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) made this week that Pres. Bush sends our soldiers to Iraq to have their heads blown off for his "amusement"? Nothing that I can see. But on this afternoon's "Hardball," Chris Matthews dredged up that and a couple other statements from the president's past and staged a segment asking whether they were worse than Stark's line. Note the graphic in the...

SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Last weekend, Airhead America talk show host Randi Rhodes was reportedly mugged and beaten in New York City. Another liberal host, John Eliot, immediately blamed the supposedly brutal beating on a possible right-wing hate machine. Other left-wing media outlets followed suit. As it turns out, Rhodes wasn't beaten at all. It's believed that she fell while taking her dog for a walk. So will liberal groups like Media Matters go after irresponsible media outlets that repeated this unfounded story?

KLSD in San Diego is expected to drop "progressive talk" for sports on Oct. 28. And now another AAR station is also leaving the fold: KOKE in Austin Texas which replaced prog talk with "Mexican music" according to LiberalTalkRadio blog. Happened yesterday. The incredible shrinking network; are they down to their last 10 stations yet? Spanish-language music had also replaced Air America in Boston last December ("La Nueva Rumba/Orgullo Latina")

Liberal talk-show host Randi Rhodes suffered painful facial injuries Sunday night when she slammed to the ground in an murky incident alternately described as a mugging, a fall, a drunken stumble and a right-wing hate attack.

The hullabaloo began Monday night when Jon Elliott, another network host, reported that the loose-lipped lib, who takes her name from Ozzy Osbourne's late guitarist, Randy Rhoads, had been mugged at 39th Street and Park Avenue, a hop, skip and jump from her apartment.

Okay, I admit it. I am the one who mugged Randi Rhodes. I had to silence her voice because Randi, via her radio show, was making such a huge impact on the electorate. Using money from a secret Rovian source I flew up to New York and accosted her on the street. Oops! You mean Randi Rhodes was NOT mugged? Damn that is so inconvenient for the DUmmies who had a field day alleging all sort of rightwing conspiracies to take Randi out of action as you can see in this THREAD incorrectly titled, "Randi Rhodes is the Victim...

Earlier today, the port side of the blogosphere erupted in righteous indignation as reports that Air America radio host Randi Rhodes got mugged began to swirl. Many bloggers started blaming a nameless conservative mugger, and then began extending the indictment to the entire conservative movement. It served their prejudices to think that conservative meanies would lay in wait for Rhodes just to keep her from speaking Truth to Power, etc etc etc. The only fly in the ointment? Rhodes never got mugged at all (via Michelle Malkin): Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims...

By DAVID B. CARUSO | Associated Press Writer 5:36 PM EDT, October 16, 2007 NEW YORK - An Air America radio personality apologized Tuesday for saying that a colleague, the liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes, had been the victim of a violent street mugging perpetrated by "the right wing hate machine." Air America's Jon Elliott announced on his late-night show Monday that Rhodes had been assaulted Sunday while walking her dog in Manhattan near her Park Avenue apartment. He also speculated that the attack was the work of someone trying to silence a liberal voice. Elliott's account of the...

NEW YORK - An attorney for Air America radio personality Randi Rhodes is disputing on on-air report by a colleague that the liberal talk show host was attacked on a Manhattan street. Air America's Jon Elliott announced on his late-night show Monday that Rhodes had been assaulted Sunday while walking her dog about a block from her Park Avenue home. He also speculated that the attack was the work of "the right wing hate machine." Elliott's account of the incident, however, was contested Tuesday by Rhodes attorney, Robert Gaulin.

Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today. Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy. "Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are...

Randi Rhodes is the Victim of a Violent Attack Randi Rhodes was mugged on Sunday night on 39th Street and Park Ave, nearby her Manhattan apartment, while she was walking her dog Simon. According to Air America Radio late night host Jon Elliott, Rhodes was beaten up pretty badly, losing several teeth and will probably be off the air for at least the rest of the week. At of late Monday night we have not able to locate any press accounts of the attack and nothing has been posted on the AAR website. Several liberal blogs, including the Randi Rhodes...

Stacy thinks he'll be the next to be axed. We are in mourning ahead of time. As I mentioned a couple weeks back, libs in San Diego are anguished because progressive talk station KLSD (those ARE the call letters, I'm not joking!) might be dropping it. How dare Clear Channel consider changing the format to something that actually MAKES money! Word has it it could happen anytime between now and Oct 1 (it could happen this week, as a new ratings period starts on Thu.) They have held a couple rallies. Oh yeah. Those always work. Be sure to invite the commies from ANSWER and any pothead you can find (the "LSD rally" in San Diego,...

The only liberal/progressive broadcast media outlet in San Diego County is about to be shut down. Clear Channel, who owns KLSD 1360 AM, is in the process of switching the liberal talk format to yet another Sports Talk station. We need our voice in media – and you can help. The political spectrum from old fashioned liberal Democrats, to peace activists, to independent progressives should all be extremely concerned about what’s happening right here in our community. This is a national issue. Let’s take a stand, right here and right now. The relentless march of right-wing media consolidation must stop...

Haven't we been here before? Well, its been a while since the last rumor post here, since I'm always a bit wary of these, and have been burned a few times as well. Nonetheless, here's a new one to chew on. And it concerns one of the biggest success stories in the liberal talk format. And hopefully, by getting this out in the open, perhaps some light will be shed on this whole speculation. Industry trade news site AllAccess is forwarding this little tidbit from San Diego, via sdradio.net's Chris Carmichael, who noticed that Clear Channel's Mike Costa, a local...

Miffed that not enough people tuned in to Al Franken’s “Air America” liberal talk radio venture to keep it out of bankruptcy protection, and further miffed that conservative talk radio hosts mobilized listeners against the failed immigration bill, some Democrats are trying to put the defunct “fairness doctrine” into federal law. A Republican member of the House, Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, has a better idea. He’s introduced legislation to forbid the Federal Communications Commission from doing such a stupid thing. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin wrote Pence that the commission has no such intention anyway, but it never hurts to...

Cindy Sheehan, Tom Hayden, and the Hate America Left meet with pro-Ba'athist members of the Iraqi parliament to discuss “peace.” TO FIND PEOPLE WHO HATE AMERICA AS MUCH AS THEY DO, the Fifth Column Left had to go halfway around the world to meet with Iraqi political leaders who call terrorism “honorable national resistance” and say foreign jihadists “are guaranteed Paradise” – and at least one of whom has ties to militia leader Muqtada al-Sadr. By the end of the trip, the American leftists would echo these sentiments. Somehow most of the media – occupied with interminable coverage of Hurricane...

Chris Wallace and Mike Gallagher did a good job of exposing Mark Green's double-talk on the Fairness Doctrine on today's Fox News Sunday. Green, who with his brother have brought Air America out of bankruptcy, was in to debate the issue against conservative talk-show host Gallagher. But when Wallace put it to Green that liberals have plenty of outlets for their views "without having the government mandate that they appear on radio," Green's answer was astounding. AIR AMERICA'S MARK GREEN: I don't want the government to mandate that.Really? Expanding on his answer, Green said he doesn't favor the Fairness Doctrine,...

So now Sen. John Kerry wants the Fairness Doctrine reinstated for broadcasters because the media “have been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views.” I agree, Liveshot. It’s just terrible the way some pompous, blue-blooded PC politicians are able to get an absolute free ride in the press from their fellow pompous blue-blood media barons for 30-plus years. As a matter of fact, Sen. Kerry, if I were drafting an indictment of the unfairness of political coverage in the media, you’d be Count One. Remember 2004? Talk about lack of fairness - that phony Dan Rather...

PORTLAND — Air America Radio, the liberal talk network, has gone off the air in Portland. WLVP (870 AM) dropped Air America at 6 a.m. Friday and replaced it with the national sports network ESPN Radio. Nassau Broadcasting, owners of WLVP, decided to drop Air America because of significant changes at the network recently, said Patrick Collins, senior vice president for Nassau Broadcasting in Maine. Collins said the changes, included the departure of Air America’s star personality, Al Franken. By Friday afternoon, Collins said he had gotten a couple dozen phone calls from people protesting the change. Besides the national...

Quietly, and under the radar, Air America Radio is off the air in Portland, Maine. AM 870 has switched over to ESPN Radio today, and I can't find any notices on the internet. There was an ad in the Portland Press Herald today, and when I checked my AM dial, sure enough, Mike and Mike were on this morning. Al Franken, a comedian and best-selling author before launching his Senate campaign this year, is worth between $4.3 million and $9.9 million, according to a financial disclosure form he filed with the Senate. Mr. Franken, a Democrat who hopes to challenge Senator Coleman of Minnesota next year, listed a salary of just over $1 million last year from his corporation, Alan Franken Inc. That corporation is the business entity that provides Mr. Franken's services — such as speaking engagements and his prior service on Air America Radio — and then pays Mr. Franken a salary at the end of the...
