First of all and foremost, her comments were made in response to riots.
Secondly, that as Americans, one of the most sacred principles of the United States is "freedom of expression".
As free Americans, we have the right to exercise that freedom and to burn, disrespect, defile, and/or desecrate the Quran for what it stands for without fear.
And the third issue that I brought up is that the Quran is not just a religious book. It is the Constitution of Saudi Arabia and several other countries that prohibit freedom.
Perhaps unwittingly (and as I mentioned - blinded by political correctness) on Dr. Rice's part, she is asking us therefore to "respect" the Constitution of Saudi Arabia.

I think you can leave out the 'blinded by political correctness' from mine, thank you. I'm on a diet, and btw, go easy on the 'perhaps unwittingly' while you're at it, I don't need the empty calories...what remains is the meat and potatoes methinks.
